Setup: Jeff Koons – “Split-Rocker” @ Rockefeller Center

Later this month, Jeff Koons will be unveiling a retrospective at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and there are plenty of events to coincide with this key exhibition. One of these will feature his famous outdoor flowered sculpture entitled Split-Rocker at the center of Rockefeller Center. Rewind: April 8 – April 13

Keeping things going, we have another Rewind summary for you this week. First up is origami artist Sipho Mabona, who recently folded a life-sized elephant from a since giant sheet of paper. He and his team of nearly a dozen people worked over four weeks to create the 10 foot tall sculpture. Frieze Art Fair ’13 : Highlights (London) – Part 1

Frieze Art Fair returns to London from 17 to 20 October 2013 showcasing 152 galleries from around the world. Jeff Koons x Dom Pérignon Sculpture Package (London)

Following the recent announcement for the release of the Jeff Koons x Dom Pérignon Sculpture Package (covered here), we were invited to the launch party during Frieze art week in London. For those who can’t afford the £15,500 which includes a mini-Balloon Venus along with the Rosé champagne inside, you can opt for the special Koons boxes of Dom Pérignon Blanc de Blancs (£130) and Rose (£315) sold at a pop-up at Claridge’s. Yesterday, Lady Gaga revealed the cover for her upcoming album ARTPOP featuring the work of Jeff Koons. Dominated by the image of a nude sculpture of the 27 year old singer, the new artwork was hinted at in her latest single Applause in her lyrics – “One second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me.” Behind the sculpture are spliced parts of artworks including Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, which is also referenced in the seashell base at the bottom and Gaga’s bikinis in her Applause […]
