Streets: World Roundup (Nov 23 – Jan 18)

Leading off the return of our Streets: World Roundup feature this week is a tribute from Jimmy C of rock icon David Bowie in the Brixton neighborhood where he was born. Londoners used the mural (photo: Tim Ireland/AP) as a makeshift shrine as visitors left gifts, flowers, and mementos at the feet of the image of Bowie as his one of his alter egos, Aladdin Sane. Pure Evil Gallery in London recently opened a solo show The Riot Series by Australian artist Jimmy C. La Tour 13 (Paris)

Over looking the Seine, La Tour Paris 13‎ is a project curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance. During a year, the entire building was painted by 100 international street and graffiti artists, each leaving their mark with murals and installations within the 36 apartments over 9 floors and cellars. Opening to the public for a month from October 1st, the building is due to be demolished in November, making it the largest temporary street art exhibition in France. Opera Gallery London is pleased to present a collection of David Bowie-inspired art, in parallel to the Victoria and Albert Museum milestone retrospective David Bowie Is. The group exhibition The Many Faces of David Bowie is featuring a contemporary vision of ‘Bowie Mania’ with one-off masterpieces including tributes from some of today’s leading contemporary and street artists. David Bowie has endorsed the exhibition on both his official Facebook page and official website. AM was pleased to see a visit this week from NY based artist Olek (featured), we don’t often get to see a crocheted cab on the streets of London! Great fun and very impressive.
