Upcoming: Jose Parla – “Segmented Realities” @ The Standard, High Line

Starting on this Thursday, the Standard Hotel on The High Line will be be hosting new work from Jose Parla. Segmented Realities will be the Brooklyn-based artist’s first outdoor installation in New York and will consist of three two sided sculptural paintings that mirror the crumbling, graffiti covered walls that he sees and often documents on his travels. Jose Parla Studio By Snøhetta

It looks like the Norway-based company Snøhetta recently designed and oversaw the renovation of an expansive new studio for Jose Parla. The former Brooklyn warehouse was divided into two sections – “the arena” and “the nest.” The first is a double-height workspace for the NY-based artist’s increasingly large projects (see Barclays Center & One World Trade Center), while the other is an elevated lounge space that overlooks the other. Previews / Setup: Jose Parla – “Segmented Realities” @ High Museum of Art

Tonight in Atlanta (6-10 pm), Jose Parla will be presenting new works at the High Museum of Art entitled Segmented Realities in conduction with Imagining New Worlds with Wifredo Lam and Fahamu Pecou. Pescou and Parla will respond to the work of Lam, providing their reactionary work based on his life and artistic Legacy. Especially intriguing are these new sculptural pieces from the Brooklyn-based Parla that take his work into the third dimension. Basel Week Miami ’14: Pulse

While in town for Basel Week Miami, we made sure to head north a little ways to attend the Pulse held at their new location – Indian Beach Park. The tenth edition of the  event featured some familiar names as well as many artists new to us. One of these was the sculptural works of Jorge Mayet (seen above) at the Galeria Horrach Moya booth. José Parlá for One World Trade Center

Continuing to make his mark in New York with high profile projects (also see Barclays Center & BAM), José Parlá recently unveiled a new mural in the One World Trade Center. The 1776 feet tall building in Manhattan took 13 years of construction and cost $3.9 billion, and stands near where the Twin Towers collapsed after the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
