Building off last years illustrious Grand Prize Award from West Collection, Ryan McLennan is set to reveal his newest body of work with David B. Smith Gallery. Opening Friday, January 28th, along side Laura Ball (teased), New Works will continue Ryan’s playful, yet intelligent artistic narrative incorporating themes of ecology, natural history, and evolution. Releases: Kris Kuksi “Divination and Delusion” Book

As a fitting followup to the impressive display of work unveiled during Art Basel Week with Joshua Liner Gallery (covered), Kris Kuski has also just provided his fans the first wide-arcing examination of his work to date. Published by BeinART, the well-produced hardcover publication serves as a chronicling of the mixed-media artist’s unique vision, captured within 144-pages of wonderfully crisp photographs of his sculptural works, a plethora of detail shots that magnify the intricate detail achieved, and a scattering of text that further shines light […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Ian Francis @ Joshua Liner Gallery

As we mentioned in the Kris Kuski article, Joshua Liner Gallery’s booth was one of the most stunning that we saw at SCOPE Miami this year. Showcasing a trinity of heavy talent that the Chelsea gallery will represent in the upcoming year, it wasn’t a surprise to see passersby drawn to the dynamic displays. AM favorite Ian Francis (featured) created a fresh batch of works for Basel Week and his warped environments were as intriguing and hypnotic as we have come to expect from the […]

Openings: Dennis McNett – “Reaping Waves and Vital Vessels/The Passing of the Wolfbats” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last Thursday night, AM was on hand for one of the most exciting openings we’ve ever experienced: Dennis Mcnett’s Reaping Waves and Vital Vessels at the Joshua Liner Gallery. We had been impressed by the individual carved wood works we had seen during our studio visit with McNett, and although those pieces were included in the show, the total was so much more than just the sum of those individual parts. In addition, he created two large-scale installations for the gallery, including one with three […]

Studio Visit/Preview: Dennis McNett

AM paid a visit to Dennis McNett’s studio while he was finishing up work for his show Reaping Waves and Vital Vessels, opening this Thursday at Joshua Liner Gallery. The space was packed with linocut and woodcut printed paper and hand-painted wood carvings, and McNett described his grand plans for filling the entire gallery with individual works and large-scale installations assembled from the various pieces. Much of the imagery appeared highly influenced by Greek and Norse history and mythology, with representations of wolves, serpents and […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – Kris Kuksi @ Joshua Liner Gallery

When it comes to artwork that stops you dead in your tracks and forces you to take a closer look, there are few artists that embody this show-stopping quality quite like Kris Kuski. Exhibiting with Joshua Liner Gallery at SCOPE Miami (teased), the Kansas based artist’s mixed-media assemblages seem to magnetically draw the viewer in close, acutely heightening their levels of perception in an attempt to catch every last nuanced detail. Utilizing a range of materials sourced in a near endless quest, Kris constructs his […]

Studio Visit: Pete Watts

Brooklyn-based artist Pete Watts was nice enough to invite AM to come by his Greenpoint studio recently to check out what he’s been working on as of late. We first had the pleasure of seeing the Rhode Island School of Design graduate’s work at Joshua Liner Gallery’s 2010 summer group show (covered), and were certainly impressed by the intricately detailed graphite-drawn environments. Watts obsessively researches interesting natural and man-made structures, and then unifies specific aspects of each into images that are at once architectural, geological […]

Marking it’s ten-year anniversary this winter, SCOPE is known for it’s cutting-edge slant, perfect for this trifecta of eclectic artists all at the forefront of their respective games. Abstract figurative/landscape […]

Preview: El Mac / Damon Soule @ Joshua Liner Gallery

In the wake of a striking Dave Kinsey exhibit (covered), Joshua Liner Gallery is set to show a pairing of two technically proficient, yet stylistically disparate artists on Thursday, October 14th. In Gallery I, El Mac’s The Humble and Sublime (teased) will serve as the Phoenix-based artist’s first solo with the NYC gallery, highlighting his unique figurative works. Known for his fantastically rendered and massively scaled street murals (covered), this exhibit will provide an opportunity for the multi-talented artist to show how he throws down […]

Teaser: Dave Kinsey – “New Works” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Dave Kinsey will be making his return to New York City next month with a new body of works at the Joshua Liner Gallery. It’s one that we’ve been looking forward to as his style has evolved into something that’s even more hypnotic and symbolic than we’ve been used to. The show opens September 9th (6-9pm) with Dave and a few special friends in attendance. (Note the new time as Joshua Liner Gallery will now be holding their openings on Thursday nights.) We’ll have more […]
