Video: JR – “Women Are Heroes” Movie

As we mentioned in a previous post, French photographer JR’s film “Women Are Heroes” has been selected for the 63rd Cannes Film Festival. Bringing his project full circle, the movie documents his travels around the world photographing victimized and impoverished women and then pasting them up in their own neighborhoods and towns, sending a powerful message of hope and strength. Openings: JR – “Women Are Heroes” @ Galerie Springmann.Varol

Germany got a healthy dosage of JR with his recent opening at Duesseldorf’s Gallery Springmann.Varol. The latest exhibition in JR’s  “Women Are Heroes” project, (previously seen in Paris and London) had much of the town buzzing. The gorgeous gallery was a great space for the French street photographer to showcase his talents. Both the inside and outside were fully utilized by the artist’s signature photo paste-ups. French photographer and activist JR will be opening his first show in Germany soon at the newly opened Gallery Springmann.Varol (formed with AM contributor Selim Varol) in Duesseldorf. The exhibition will be another showing of JR’s project, “Women Are Heroes”, (previously seen in Paris and London), which is also the subject of his film recently nominated for the Golden Camera at the Cannes Festival. LAzarides 90210 heats up Los Angeles this summer

Remember last year when we broke the news about Lazarides moving their famous Outsiders show to LA? Well, they decided to step up their pop-up show efforts by expanding their LA presence to 4 shows that will last through this summer. Video: JR – “Women Are Heroes” (Paris)

Street photographer extraordinaire JR recently released a video chronicling one of his great projects, the Paris portion of his traveling show “Women Are Heroes” held during the Nuit Blanche festival (covered). In it, you can see varied response from the French people and media as well as some fabulous timelapse footage of the French artist and his crew relentlessly pasting up the banks of the Seine river. Releases: JR – “Women Are Heroes” Book

French photographer and street artist JR just announced the release today of his “Women are Heroes” book.  In addition to following JR’s international exploits and wheatpastes, this book also focuses on his subjects – the women of Africa, Asia and South America, offering their personal testimonials to the public for the very first time.  “Women are Heroes” is now available through Crakedz. JR @ Abu Dhabi Art Fair

Looks like intrepid traveler, JR, added Abu Dhabi on the list of places he has visited with his street photography.  To coincide with the annual Abu Dhabi Art Fair, the french wheatpaster was asked to create a large scale installation for the increasingly art-infused capital of the arab emirate.
