Previews: Justin Bower – “The Humiliations” @ Unix Gallery

Tonight in New York, the UNIX Gallery is hosting the opening of a new solo show from Justin Bower entitled The Humiliations. On display will be recognizable fragmented portraits that appear almost digital in some respects but are entirely hand-painted, a technique that further drives home themes of modern life and the influence of technology in our lives. He further states – “The fracturing of the human, doubling of sense organs, opening of the flesh…are all ‘Humiliations’ to the autonomous and free-willed human of the past. […]

LA Art Show ’14: Ace Gallery

One of the first booths you saw on entrance to this year’s Los Angeles Art Fair was occupied by the ACE Gallery. The large booth was stocked with prime examples of work from many of the artists that show with them including Justin Bower (seen above), Laurie Lipton, Phil Frost, Date Farmers and more. Check out the rest of our coverage of the fair here.  

Showing: Justin Bower – “Panic Room” @ Unix Gallery

Currently showing in New York is Justin Bower’s new solo show at the Unix Gallery entitled Panic Room. The Los Angeles-based painter is presenting a new collection of large scale work featuring his multi-layered and frenetic portraiture. The surreal faces portrayed look like they have been taken from glitchy TV monitors with their faces vacillating between various emotions, embellished and broken up with artificial geometric artifacts. Art Platform ’11: First Look

Late Friday afternoon, AM stopped by the vernissage for Art Platform’s debut in Los Angeles. The new event, which looks to become the preeminent art fair in the LA area, is the sister fair to New York’s annual Armory Show. Although it did not attract as many blue-chip galleries as the Big Apple’s version, it was nevertheless an impressive start and we look forward to following the growth and expansion of the event in years to come.
