Streets: Kamea Hadar x Defer (San Francisco)

If you remember, we had the recently chance to share some photos with you of Kamea Hadar and Defer prepping for their recently concluded showing at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco. While in the Bay Area, the two Hawaii-based artists and friends took the opportunity to get up around the city with a couple murals. Mirroring their work for the gallery as well as their collaboration for POW! WOW! Hawaii earlier this year (covered), the walls were painted with the distinctive combination of Hadar’s figurative work […]

Previews: Kamea Hadar & Defer – “Paradise Lost” @ 1AM SF

After their mural collaboration for POW! WOW! Hawaii earlier this year (covered), Hawaii-based artists Kamea Hadar and Defer (seen above adding his calligraphic embellishments to Hadar’s figurative imagery) began a year-long series of collaborative walls, gallery shows and other creative projects. On this note, this Thursday, August 7th, they will be opening a show together at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco, showing a new body of mixed media works on canvas. The show and the entire series of projects, Paradise Lost, refers to John Milton’s epic poem by the same title. […]

Recap: POW! WOW! Taiwan

Last week, the first POW! WOW! Taiwan wrapped up successfully as invited artists finished public works throughout the capital city of Taipei. With the main event based in Hawaii (see 2014), it looks like the crew behind this annual art retreat will be branching out to different parts of the world. Taipei’s version featured some familiar faces and some new talent, including some local artists. We have already shared photos of James Jean’s impressive wall and an associated show from Brendan Monroe & Evah Fan, […]

POW! WOW! Hawaii Sacred Canoe Hokulea Project

Right after setting up the Taiwan event (introduced), the POW! WOW! Hawaii family got back to work taking part in an interesting project with The Polynesian Voyaging Society in Honolulu. What they put together was focused on the sacred canoe Hokulea on which legendary lifeguard and surfer Eddie Aikau lost his life while trying to get help for his friends between the Hawaiian and Tahitian island chains. The POW! WOW! artists led by Kamea Hadar created artwork on Hokulea itself, its sister canoe Hikianalia, and a mural painted in Kaka’ako in collaboration the students of […]
