Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Food Face Portraits As Sculptures By Philip Haas

Currently (thru October 18th) at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Philip Haas has installed his larger than life sculptures that take Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s famous face portraits (made from fruits, vegetables, flowers) into the third dimension. Taking inspiration from the Renaissance painter’s The Four Seasons set of paintings, Haas has impressively recreated the characters in 360 degrees and at fifteen feet high and placed them on the south lawn of the museum. KAWS Designs Trophy For SpongeBob SquarePants 400 Nascar Race

Continuing to raise his profile and to familiarize the general public with his signature imagery, KAWS has teamed up with NASCAR to design the trophy for the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 coming up at the Kansas Speedway on May 9th (although it might be delayed due to the weather). Hailing from New York, Julia Chiang immerses the Midwest this fall with her work via Kansas City’s Bill Brady Gallery. Over the weekend, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City opened up a new show from KAWS entitled UPS AND DOWNS. The NY-based artist has been on a roll recently (also see PAFA, BAM, MTV, Basel, Tokyo) and it looks like he still has a couple more high profile shows scheduled before the end of the year. Today, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City will be hosting KAWS’ new show titled UPS AND DOWNS. The exhibition will be featuring select works previously unseen.
