Teasers: KAWS – “FOCUS:KAWS” @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

In the wake of Hold the Line last month in Los Angeles, KAWS will upgrade his relentless work ethic to the museum level over the ensuing year. We first saw the Brooklyn-based artist make his museum solo debut last summer at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut. Then, with a host of museum group exhibitions already under his belt, Jeffrey Deitch selected him for their record setting exhibition Art in the Streets this past spring at MOCA. Now, the surging contemporary artist will have [...]

Frieze ’11: Overview

London’s Frieze week kicked off properly on Wednesday 12 October with the preview for Frieze Art Fair in Regent’s Park. AM has long been a Frieze enthusiast. The calibre of its exhibitors and their booths makes most other contemporary art fairs look provincial in comparison. Conscious of the international spotlight, the big fish bring out the big guns and do whatever else they can to retain their dominance, while the ambitious smaller galleries pull out the stops to try raising the bar even higher for [...]

Openings: KAWS – “Hold The Line” @ Honor Fraser

Just several hours ago, the Honor Fraser gallery finally unveiled the latest works by New York-based artist KAWS. This show, Hold The Line, marks his second return to the gallery (see 2009) and the artwork on display was more than enough to warrant the attention and interest this show had been garnering ever since it was first announced. This current exhibition features a collection of approximately fifty circular works of art, or tondos (first seen at this year’s Armory). Each piece contains a different rendition [...]

A little while back, we brought you some photos from the Hennessy x KAWS bottle release party. In the video above, the Brooklyn based artist discusses the project on camera, but more importantly, the footage allows viewers to catch a glimpse of more of his recent work. He appears to be going with bold color schemes, some of which we showed you here, for his upcoming show in September at Honor Fraser. Via Slamxhype. Discuss KAWS here.

Teaser: KAWS @ Honor Fraser

KAWS fans in LA may remember his last showing in the City of Angels not only for the great art, but also for the long lines and large crowds they had to battle to get a look at their favorite artist.  Well, let that be a lesson the second time around as he will be returning to Honor Fraser scheduled for a September 10th opening (perhaps with some Hennessy for attendees to sample).  If these new images and his recent showing with the gallery at [...]

KAWS x Hennessy VS Cognac Bottle Launch Party @ New Museum

Last Thursday night, AM attended the launch party for the new Hennessy VS Cognac bottle designed by KAWS held at the New Museum. The fresh collaboration is actually the first in a series of individually numbered Hennessy bottles to be designed by well known artists. Many friend and peers of the artist were in attendance at the event including Erik Parker, Todd “REAS” James, HAZE Erik Foss, Eric Elms and Edison Chen and they all rocked to the beats of DJ Questlove as the fully catered [...]
