Further expanding his reach into Asia, KAWS will be opening up a new project at Central Embassy in Bangkok at the end of this month. Teaming up with curator AllRightsReserved again, the New York-based artist will be introducing what looks to be his sculptural version of Elmo remixed with his signature companion treatment at the architecturally stunning luxury retail & hotel complex. Coming up this weekend, KAWS will be presenting new works to his fans in Korea at Galerie Perrotin’s new outpost. The newly opened space (1F 5 PALPAN-GIL, JONGNO-GU) will be the setting for the New York-based artist’s first visit to Seoul City. Look for more paintings featuring his continually evolving abstractions of his favorite cartoon, comic, and pop culture inspired characters. The show runs from June 2nd to August 27th. Recently, Nigo announced that KAWS will be designing Uniqlo’s UT line for spring. The new collection, scheduled to be on sale April 22nd, will consist of 12 T-shirts with the Brooklyn-based artist’s imagery. By the first look, they are everything KAWS fans would hope for. The Companions, X’s, gloves, eyes and Chums, all rendered with the American artist’s recognizable line work, have found their way on to the backs and fronts of the tees. For those who missed it, KAWS recently collaborated with designer Mira Mikati on several different varsity jackets. Featuring the cartoon character based imagery from the Brooklyn-based artist, the jackets from Mikati are now available from colette for €1100. Three weeks before the official opening on the 6th of February, the historically designed landscape of Yorkshire Sculpture Park turned into sort of a construction site last weekend. With large trucks, cranes and other heavy machinery in place, the setup of the first UK museum exhibition by KAWS has begun.
