Showing: Kelsey Brookes – ” Serotonin; Happiness and Spiritual States” @ Quint Contemporary Art

A couple weeks ago, the Quint Contemporary Art in San Diego hosted all new works from local artist Kelsey Brookes. Entitled Serotonin; Happiness and Spiritual States, the show featured his representations of various neurotransmitter molecules colored with the various intereactions they have on our mental status. The vibrant and colorful patterns were repeated over a series of small, medium, and large paintings. Check out more views of the work below… Photo credit: Keegan Gibbs & Philipp Scholz Ritterman / Quint Contemporary Art. Discuss Kelsey Brookes here.

Preview: Kelsey Brookes – “Serotonin; Happiness and Spiritual States” @ Quint Contemporary Art

This Saturday night, November 10th, Kelsey Brookes will be putting on display some paintings he has been working on for a while now that are based loosely on the structures of neurotransmitters and their influence on our mental state. As a former microbiologist, it is only natural for science and art to converge in Brookes’ new body of work entitled Serotonin; Happiness and Spiritual States. Publisher Mark Murphy stopped and snapped some shots (seen in this article as well as over here & here), but head […]

Update: Kelsey Brookes

It looks like Kelsey Brookes has been working on a new body of work for Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla, set to open in November. The upcoming series of paintings, drawing from the San Diego-based artist’s science background, will be inspired by structural diagrams of different neurotransmitters as well as the drugs that mimic them, both designer (i.e. xanex, prozac) and recreational (i.e. mescaline, LSD). And in other news, Brookes has been tapped to create covers for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they get set to release 18 […]

The new body of work is currently on display at Compound Project in Malibu and is entitled Meditations on Symmetry. Although the pieces still maintain the vibrancy and love for patterns seen in previously, Brookes seems to be exploring a more abstract side of his oeuvre. More photos after the jump…

Travelogue: Kelsey Brookes – RVCA in Hawaii

Recently RVCA rented four houses on the North Shore in Hawaii and put an eclectic group of people together including Julian Schnabel, Pat Tenore, Lindsay Lohan, and Estevan Oriol among many others. One of those also invited was painter Kelsey Brookes who took advantage of the setting and time to do things he loved – eat, surf, and paint. At the end of their time together, Kelsey cut apart a larger painting of small faces and gifted everyone a little piece. More photos after the jump…
