Luke Chueh (interviewed) has recently started a Kickstarter with Munky King to create one minute shorts of some of his most iconic paintings. With the expertise of Tiny Giants, the Los Angeles-based artist’s world will expand as stories can be told centered around how his characters ended up in the situations they did (see an example below of his Target painting). Entitled Grief Encounters, the animated series can be supported by going to kickstarter here, with many goodies from Chueh going to those who invest in the different tiers […]

The Konbit Shelter Project has launched a Kickstarter campaign to support their ongoing work with a community in Haiti. Created by a group of engineers, architects and artists, including Swoon (interviewed), who wanted to make an ongoing commitment to work with the local community to help with reconstruction efforts following the devastation wrought by the earthquake which struck the country in 2010, the project takes its name from the Creole term for the traditional form of cooperative labor which is common throughout Haitian agriculture and society. […]
Yesterday, Tristan Eaton revealed a project he has been working on getting started for the past five years – a plan to paint the Red Sands Sea Forts off the coast of the UK along with Shepard Fairey, Futura, How & Nosm, and The London Police. Although the proposal does have its naysayers who bring up some valid points, the ultimate goal is to bring enough attention to these historic structures built during World War II thereby generating enough money to hopefully preserve these for […]

It looks like Marina Abramovic is the latest creative to turn to Kickstarter to fund a project or idea. What she wants to accomplish is quite ambitious as the New York-based Serbian performance artist hopes to create an institute that will serve as her legacy and homage to time-based and immaterial art – the epnonymously named Marina Abramovic Institute (MAI). Of course, with the estimated $20 million needed to realize her dream, the $600,000 goal for this Kickstarter will only go toward the first phase of MAI’s development […]
While AM and local art-lovers are enjoying the public murals (like the one seen above in-progress from DAL) that come along with the annual POW WOW event, others from around the world can only experience it through the photos and videos posted online. They now are hoping to supplement this with the production of an official book and film. “The book will contain high resolution photos of all the completed murals, covering all major POW WOW 2013 satellite events, with sketches and interviews by artists and Pow […]

They aim to rectify this and have gone to Kickstarter to fund this endeavor. Watch the informative video below and if interested, head over to support their project as there is some awesome […]

It seems more and more artists are moving towards using Kickstarter as an avenue to fund their creative projects. We’ve touched on some before like next year’s POW WOW, the Kenny Scharf documentary, and Kevin Cyr’s Camper Kart, but this next idea we bring you is just as worthy of your support. Brooklyn-based Swoon has a dream of building a permanent interactive structure in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans that she will call Dithyrambalina. “It will look like a house, but it will function […]
