Streets: Kid Acne’s giant ‘Art-Fag’ in Sheffield

AM ventured over to the wilds of South Yorkshire this weekend to visit the studio of Kid Acne, who is currently putting together a new body of work for his upcoming solo show at StolenSpace entitled Rhythm is a Dancer. More on that later…. The call of the outdoors apparently got the better of him though as he painted this huge ‘Art-Fag’ in the same spot as his Stick to the Plan slogan piece from last year. You can see it for miles around as [...]

Streets: Kid Acne – ‘Art Fags’ & Ema – ‘Dropmen’ (Paris)

One of our favourite things we’ve seen on the streets over the last few months have been Kid Acne’s Art Fags. Acne has frequently brightened the day with his playful creations, but this huge street art in-joke makes us smile everytime we come across one. KA has been on a pasting spree on the streets of Paris, along with partner in crime Ema – who has getting busy dropping her Dropmen alongside the looseys. Perhaps we will see some more action from Kid Acne in [...]

Releases: Kid Acne – ‘When the Smoke Clears’ Zine

AM got all enthused late last year over Kid Acne’s solo show (covered) at Concrete Hermit entitled When the Smoke Clears. For us, the defining part of the installation was the wall of small one-off screenprinted drawings in all their black and pink splendour. Well, if that monochromatic installation floats your boat, you can now thumb through the series of drawings in Kid Acne’s brand new When the Smoke Clears Zine. Produced with a screenprinted, embossed and numbered cover, the 52 page zine is available [...]

Openings: Kid Acne – ‘When the Smoke Clears’ @ Concrete Hermit

South Yorkshire’s finest – Kid Acne – opened his latest solo show in London last week at Concrete Hermit. ‘When the Smoke Clears’ brings a fine selection of the varied aspects of this artist’s oeuvre together in one space. The installation begins with the hundreds of one-line-drawings of Kid Acne’s signature house emblem in white paint marker pen on the window to the gallery and store. Step inside and the floor is spray-painted in a vivid Day-Glo pink with a black sinuous pattern running throughout [...]

Openings: StolenSpace Summer Group Show

AM got to the opening of StolenSpace’s annual Summer Group Show last week to find a line of people queuing out of the door! A packed house came out to see what we found to be a very strong grouping of work from an interesting mix of artists, some old StolenSpace favorites, but a lot fresh names – some new to the gallery, and some new to the London scene. Chloe Early is one of our favorite painters from the StolenSpace roster, and her new [...]
