A couple of weeks ago, AM paid a visit to Mark Whalen aka Kill Pixie’s studio as he was putting the final touches on his latest collection which will debut this coming weekend at the Merry Karnowksy Gallery. Now, we were fortunate enough to visit the gallery as he readies the installation process for his show titled Anamoly. The exhibition will feature artwork which fuses various thematical elements such as control, human nature, and Eastern culture. The opening reception will also feature a one-night only […]

Studio Visit: Mark Whalen (Kill Pixie)

Last week, we featured a video teaser for Mark Whalen’s latest exhibition entitled Anomaly. We were fortunate enough to be able to follow this up with a visit to his studio and document the some of the process as he readies for his September 10th show at the Merry Karnowksy Gallery. If that video didn’t blow you away, this visit should at the least give you a great indication of the hard work put forth by the Australian born artist. Whalen, who also goes by […]

Videos / Teaser: Mark Whalen – “Anomaly” @ Merry Karnowksy

Coming up next month, Mark Whalen (aka Kill Pixie) will be unleashing a new body of work for Merry Karnowksy Gallery where he showed last October. Although we’ll be looking forward to seeing the progression of his signature characters in their geometric environs, what blew us away were the animations he has been working on. Talk about next level shit. Also, a preview image after the jump…

Studio Visits / Preview: Deedee Cheriel – ‘Abracadabra’ @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

AM recently had the pleasure of dropping in on Deedee Cheriel at her sunny home and studio in the Echo Park neighbourhood of Los Angeles.  Her latest exhibition, ‘Abracadabra’, opens Saturday, October 9th at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in LA alongside the new show by Mark Whalen (Kill Pixie), ‘Paralleled Opposites’. Cheriel uses animals to portray emotion, and the characters in her narrative pieces are often reminiscent of the anthromorphic deities depicted by the ancient Egyptians.  She describes the exhibition’s title as referring to the transformation […]

AM just got a peek at the new paintings that Mark Whalen (you may also know him as his alter-ego Kill Pixie) is presenting on Saturday October 9th at Merry Karnowksy Gallery in Los Angeles, and we had to share some of the geometric landscape goodness with you! Mark’s latest body of work is entitled “Paralleled Opposites”, perhaps as a recognition of how his artistic journey and career to date has developed from his graffiti beginnings into the contemporary fine artist we see today. Whalen’s […]

Entitled “Observatory”, the show contains a range of Whalen’s oeuvre from his large scale geometric landscapes right through to his small scale character based compositions – […]

Showing: Lava Collective “Cityscape” Group Show @ Dray Walk Gallery London

AM happened upon this good looking pop-up show at the Dray Walk Gallery in London’s Truman Brewery complex this week organised by the freshly formed Lava Collective. Lava brought over Brooklyn residents Peru Ana Ana Peru for their first showing of work in the UK, and their installation dominated the huge space. Peru Ana Ana Peru had just opened a show at Brooklynite Gallery a couple of weeks back (covered here), and we felt their use of audio and visual media as part of the […]

Openings: POW Shop Opens Its Doors

Pictures On Walls (POW) opened a new shop-cum-gallery in London last week and AM dropped in to take a look around at what goodies might be on offer. Rather than being just a print shop, we were pleasantly surprised to find some real gems of hand worked prints plus original works for sale by some of our favourites; including a Banksy canvas, a huge Stephen Powers piece on acrylic, original work from Kill Pixie and Blu plus a fantastic collection of work from the prolific […]
