Baby Tattooville ’09: KMNDZ (Part II)

One of the big surprises of Baby Tattooville this year was the big reveal of who would walk home with the huge KMNDZ painting we previously told you about. After a dramatic explanation of the raffle by Bob Self, everyone came and picked a small envelope after which everyone opened at the same time. Imagine the chaos that ensued when each individual attendee was lead to believe they were the winner. As you can see from the video above, it turns out everyone was a [...]

Baby Tattooville ’09: Curious Art Sale

During each annual Baby Tattooville, artists produce exclusive artwork for an all-one-print that includes each and every piece.  The original artwork that is used for that print is available first to attendees of the event, then if any pieces are still available, the public will have a chance to buy.  The order in which those lucky BT-goers receive the opportunity to purchase is based on their ticket number (those who were the first to register get lower numbers).  It is a wonderful opportunity to skip [...]

Baby Tattooville ’09: KMNDZ and his giveaway

Baby Tattooville attendees were surprised to see a large Johnny Rodriguez aka KMNDZ painting in the corner of the room when they walked in for their opening reception yesterday.  Imagine the reaction when we learned that one lucky collector was going to be able to take this beautiful painting home with them via a raffle.  Johnny definitely went beyond the call of duty to make sure BT attendees got their money’s worth this year.  Also, there is a mysterious scavenger hunt or game (KMNDZ was [...]

ARTWALK Culver City: Thinkspace Gallery

Last weekend, Culver City hosted their ARTWALK 2009 event with over thirty galleries throughout the area participating. Thinkspace Gallery, located in the Silver Lake district, got in on the action as well, opening a one day pop-up gallery on Washington Blvd. Fans packed the rear gallery area throughout the day to see the live-painting demonstration by Asylm, Anthony Clarkson, Mear One, Michael Alvarez, Michael Pukac, Nathan DeYoung and Zoso. The show itself featured work from Ekundayo, Allison Sommers, ARMSROCK, Brandi Milne, Brian Viveros, Camilla d’Errico, Fafi, [...]

Openings: Hi-Fructose Group Show – “Overdose” @ Copro Gallery

“Overdose” (previewed) opened this past Saturday at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Upon entering the gallery, you will notice several great pieces from “Overdose” on display in the gallery’s front room. The majority of the exhibition’s body of work is displayed in the gallery’s main room. A table was set up over in the smaller wing of the gallery for the Hi-Fructose Collected Edition 1 book signing. Artists Greg “Craola” Simkins, Gary Baseman, Attaboy, photographer Brian McCarty, and Joe Ledbetter were all on hand for [...]

Preview: “Overdose” Hi-Fructose Group Show @ Copro Gallery

After their highly successful group show last year, Hi-Fructose is back again with another exhibition, this time titled “Overdose,” opening April 4th at Copro Gallery.  With a increasingly more respected reputation as one of the best publications in the scene, they been able to assemble a pretty amazing lineup.  Sure to be one of the showstoppers is this huge 50 x 50 inch Chris Berens piece seen above.  See some other preview pics as well as the full lineup after the jump.

Preview: Movers & Shakers @ POVevolving

Our friend, fellow Baby Tattooville attendee, and collector extraordinaire, Gino Joukar, has send us some preview pics for “Movers & Shakers,” a group show that will be his first as a curator.  The list of artists participating is impressive, no doubt all who have found themselves part of Gino’s vast personal collection at some point.  Artists include Amy Sol (seen above), Ana Bagayan, Anthony Ausgang, Brandi Milne, Brian Despain, Damon Soule, Dave Cooper, David Horvath, Doktor A, Ekundayo, Eric Fortune, Eric Joyner, Eric White, Jeff [...]

Take a look at the full list of artists after the [...]

Openings: KMNDZ & Ekundayo @ Thinkspace

Judging from the crowd that showed up for the opening, KMNDZ & Ekundayo careers are going in an opposite direction when compared to the stock market right now.  Luckily we got there early and took some quick pics before it got too packed.  The two artists spent several days completely transforming Thinkspace and their hard work definitely paid off. Entering the gallery was like entering into their own little post-nuclear apocalyptic world. More pics after the jump.

Preview: KMNDZ & Ekundayo @ Thinkspace

KMNDZ (above) & Ekundayo’s (below) two-man show is set to open this Friday, October 10th at Thinkspace in the Silverlake district. Arrested Motion was invited to take a look at the installation process last night, as well as take some photos to share with our readers. Those attending this show will be very impressed by the setup, as the two artists have completely transformed the space into the “Red Forest” (title of the show), the most radioactive place on earth. The paintings of the show [...]
