Openings: Laura Ball – “Keep” @ David B. Smith

AM was on hand for the October 16th opening reception of Laura Ball’s newest show Keep, her second solo at Denver’s David B. Smith Gallery. Using watercolor paint and graphite, Ball’s work is a subconscious exploration of the Hero Myth of Joseph Campbell. The series is composed of intertwined animals interacting on a white background, undulating and full of subtle details, making the work highly engaging. Installation shots via the gallery. After enjoying a pretty amazing show from Laura Ball in the past at David B. Smith Gallery, we are pleased to hear she will be back in October for another solo show at the Denver showspace. Continuing to work on her watercolor amalgamations of creatures upon creatures forming more creatures, the San Diego-based painter will be introducing some of her new creations soon as you can see… Discuss Laura Ball here.

Last week, the David B. Smith Gallery presented all new watercolors from Laura Ball collectively entitled Minotaur. While exploring the PULSE art fair (covered) in Miami, we came across several of the paintings that will be in the show which we shared with you here. Now with these new photos, you will be able to appreciate the new entire body of work which features her signature creative amalgamations of smaller creatures to form larger animals. Tomorrow night in Denver, the David B. Smith Gallery will be exhibiting all new paintings from Southern California-based Laura Ball. New York-based artist, Ryan McLennan, will be traveling to Denver this coming weekend with a new body of work in tote for art enthusiasts in the Mile High City. You may remember back at 2009’s Art Basel in Miami, we became enamored with the work of SF based artist Laura Ball. Well, we are delighted to learn that she will be showing a new body of work entitled “Growing Pains” at the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver alongside Ryan McLennan at the end of the month.  We’ll have more to follow but for now, enjoy this complex animal assemblage painting from the upcoming show.
