Setup / Video: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Familiar Strangers” @ Lebasse Projects

As the we get closer to Yoskay Yamamoto’s (interviewed) opening of “Familiar Strangers” at LeBasse Projects tomorrow night (June 12th), we wanted to give you one last behind the scenes look at this excellent show. As we hinted in the last picture of our studio visit to Yoskay’s “batcave”, you got a glimpse of the exclusive “Astroboy” homage sculpture – “Do you remember me?” Well, imagine an entire wall installation with over 100 of them. FYI, the limited black resin variant will be available only […]

Preview / Studio Visits: Jonathan Darby @ Lebasse Projects, Culver City Artwalk

We saw that rising UK star Jonathan Darby posted some images on his blog from his studio of some new work in progress as he prepares for a showing with Lebasse Projects as part of the annual Culver City Artwalk, so we thought we’d ask him for a few more. Each body of work we see from Jonathan shows a progression and judging by the paint splatters on the studio walls and ceiling, it looks like he has been getting down and dirty to make some […]

Studio Visits / Preview: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Familiar Strangers” @ Lebasse Projects

AM recently visited with Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) at his Los Angeles studio. Taking time out of his marathon work sessions, he gave us a sneak preview into his coming show “Familiar Strangers” (teased) at LeBasse Projects which opens June 12th. The show is comprised of not only his signature “east meets west” brand of technique and imagery, but marks the expansion of Yoskay’s work into ceramics and clay modeling. We got to see a few of these intricate creations which are each hand molded/sanded. In case you […]

Interviews: Blaine Fontana – “The Golden Record” @ Lebasse Projects

After a three year self-imposed hiatus from gallery shows (save a few group show contributions), Blaine Fontana made a comeback last weekend to the gallery scene with his solo show “The Golden Record” at Lebasse Projects in Los Angeles (our pics from the opening here). The exhibition looks to be a triumphal return for Fontana, and is based around humanity and its interface with the universe – the title referencing the information filled golden disks placed on board the Voyager II space craft launched in […]

Opening: Thomas Doyle – “Collateral Damage” @ Lebasse Projects

Thomas Doyle is the man all girls and boys look up to and admire, not only because he creates fascinating and immersive works of art, but also because he is pursuing his childhood love, creating three dimensional worlds using only his imagination and two hands.  We are all much better off thanks to his career decision.  In his first solo show in Los Angeles, Doyle presents his recognizable sculptures of intricate miniature snapshots of life and for the very first time, photographs. More after the […]

Edwin Ushiro has just released two new prints from last month’s hauntingly beautiful LeBasse Projects‘ show, “Softly Encompassing the Womb” (covered). “Time Therefore Remained Idle Without Light Extruding Acceptance,” pictured above, is Edwin’s interpretation of a Japanese turned Hawaiian ghost story from his youth, while “Rediscovery of the Infinite Stars Inside the Shell,” pictured after the jump, is a self portrait of the artist with his childhood pet, “Rusty.” Moderately priced at one hundred and two hundred and fifty dollars a piece, Edwin’s two new […]

Baby Tattooville ’09: Yoskay Yamamoto Reverse Studio Visit

Amidst all the releases, events and activities that took place during Baby Tattooville ’09, the one event that really provided true insight into the technical and creative processes of the participating artists was the organized Reverse Studio Visits.  For their visits, the artists (in this case Yoskay Yamamoto, Audrey Kawasaki, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Miss Mindy and Elizabeth McGrath) brought in-process works with them to BT ’09, spending an hour each painting and providing a behind the scenes peek at how they work in their studios.  […]
