Upcoming: Lisa Ericson @ Antler Gallery

On July 27th, Antler Gallery in Portland will present new surreal paintings from Lisa Ericson featuring her hybrid creatures of the natural world. The new body of work she has prepared for this exhibition seems to be centered upon”mobile habitats,” plants growing on the back of tortoises that can support other wild life such as butterflies, frogs, and other insects. She will be sharing the show space with artists David Rice and Danny Samuels and their new work. Discuss Lisa Ericson here.

Participants include: Aaron Nagel, ABCNT, Adam Caldwell, Alex Garant, Alex Yanes, Allison Sommers, Amanda […]

Art Focus: Lisa Ericson

Painter Josh Keyes (interviewed) recently clued us in to the work of his wife Lisa Ericson by posting some of her work on various social media. We were especially drawn to a series she calls Mouserflies, for obvious reasons as you can see from the surreal hybrids seen here. For those interested in more from the Portland-based artist, you can see work from her as well as Keyes in the Unfathomable group show currently on view at The Piranha Shop, curated by Antler Gallery. Discuss Lisa Ericson here.

Openings: ‘Unnatural Histories II’ @ Antler Gallery

AM recently brought you a preview of Antler Gallery’s Unnatural Histories II exhibition including the first look at the Josh Keyes‘ work in the group show. We now have pictures from the opening, courtesy of the gallery for your viewing pleasure. The concept of the exhibition called for each participating artist to create a natural history inspired portrait of a mythical creature. The subject can either be taken from existing mythologies/folklore or completely invented by the artist. Each of the artworks is then accompanied by a framed description of […]

Here’s a show that a few people are looking forward to. Unnatural Histories II is the follow up to last year’s group exhibition at Portland’s Antler Gallery. Opening on 26th September, the exhibition calls for each participating artist to create a natural history inspired portrait of a mythical creature. The subject can either be taken from existing mythologies/folklore or completely invented by the artist. Each of the artworks will be accompanied by a framed description of the creature as written by the artist. Below is an example […]
