POW! WOW! Long Beach ’15: James Jean

Over the weekend, James Jean (interviewed) completed one of his tallest murals yet for POW! WOW! Long Beach (see our coverage here). Painted on the side of the historic Varden Hotel in the heart of downtown, the striking black and white mural was placed next to a wall by Tristan Eaton (more on this later). Previews: “Vitality and Verve” @ Long Beach Museum of Art (Part I)

Yesterday, AM had the opportunity to stop by the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) for what’s shaping up to be an epic exhibition. Put on in collaboration by Thinkspace Gallery, the people behind POW! WOW!, and LBMA, the main attraction of Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape are the on site installations and murals. James Jean – “Psychic Temple” Library Project (Part II)

After introducing you last month to the Psychic Temple project from James Jean (interviewed), we now have an update with some on site photos for you to enjoy. A collaboration between the nomadic Jean and architect Brandon Shigeta, the intriguing undertaking is commissioned by interTrend in Long Beach for their new library. James Jean – “Psychic Temple” Library Project (Part I)

It looks like the fabrication is finally underway for the Psychic Temple project for interTrend in Long Beach, a collaboration between artist James Jean (interviewed) and architect Brandon Shigeta. The amazing library for the communication company that specializes in helping corporate America to target Asian Americans will feature the imagery of Jean carved into the backs of an integrated series of bookshelves. Coming up at the end of the next month, the Long Beach Museum of Art will be hosting an interesting group exhibition where 14 accomplished artists are asked to contribute one large scale painting from their careers which they deem as being pivotal. Previews: “Risqué {dirty little pictures}” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

On Thursday night, September 19th, the Long Beach Museum of Art will host the opening of a new group exhibition entitled Risqué {dirty little pictures}.
