Openings: Eric Fortune – “A Life to Leave” @ Lebasse Projects (Culver City)

Last month at Lebasse Projects, AM had the chance to visit A Life to Leave, a new solo from Eric Fortune (interviewed). Ever since we first started covering the Ohio-based painter’s work, we have known about his time-consuming and very detailed style but the new pieces really seem like he has accentuated his process (if that is possible). From his rendering of flowing garments to his interplay with ligh, his execution if just flawless. Discuss this show here. Discuss Eric Fortune here.

Upcoming: RETNA @ Michael Kohn Gallery

Coming up in September, the Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles will be unveiling new paintings and works on paper as well as site-specific installations from RETNA (featured). We last saw the MSK-affiliated writer back in March when he painted a mural at the famed Bowery and Houston location in New York and look forward to the continued evolution of his street hieroglyphics and urban calligraphy. Discuss RETNA here.

Futura x Hennessy Launch Party (Los Angeles)

Last night, Hennessy held the Los Angeles premiere (see NY launch here) of the VS cognac bottle designed by Futura at an exclusive launch party held at the Milk Studios in Hollywood. The special bottle is a continuation of the brand’s collaboration with high profile artists (see KAWS) and it seemed that no expense was spared with Diplo and Santigold on hand to entertain the crowd. Of particular interest to fans of the graffiti legend though were various originals on display as well as a live painting session. Also on hand […]

Openings: REVOK – “Gilgamesh” @ Known Gallery

Not only did Known Gallery host an opening reception from SABER (interviewed) on Saturday night (covered), the Los Angeles showspace also featured new works from REVOK in a joint exhibition. Entitled Gilgamesh, the collection of intricately assembled sculptural pieces represent a carefully selected montage of found materials garnered from the slowly decaying areas of Detroit, REVOK’s current city of choice and source of inspiration. These forgotten pieces of the Motor City were constructed into an intriguing display of diamonds, triangles, rectangles and other irregular polygonal shapes. Also seen in the […]

First up are photos of the graf-inspired works from SABER collectively entitled Beautification. For this showing, record breaking artist decided to move away from the flag-inspired works that he has been working on of late and created a set of mostly figurative paintings centered around urban landscapes superimposed with his signature flowing script.
