Upcoming: REVOK – “Gilgamesh” @ Known Gallery

REVOK recently posted up some photos on his blog of the process leading up to his new body of work created for his solo show coming up at the end of the month in Los Angeles. Gilgamesh is set to open on July 28th at the Known Gallery with a selection of works created from found objects. These shots show the graffiti artist from the beginning of his process foraging for materials in the abandoned and dilapidated buildings of Detroit to the precise and increasingly […]

Openings: Laurie Lipton – “L.A. Sous-Real” @ ACE Gallery

Last weekend, the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles played host to L.A. Sous-Real, the latest solo showing from artist Laurie Lipton (interviewed). Featuring her incredibly detailed graphite works, the works for this show are a personal testimony to her experiences of change and a new environment. She states:  “I am in the peculiar position of being a foreigner in my own country. I just moved back to the USA after living in Europe for over 36 years (more than half my life). This show is […]

Openings: David Ellis for “Go West” @ Mark Moore Gallery

The second half of the Joshua Liner curated Go West exhibition featured work from versatile artist David Ellis, which took up half of Los Angeles’ Mark Moore Gallery (see Kris Kuksi’s part in the show here). Those attending the opening in Culver City on Saturday night would have seen the NY-based artist’s paintings featuring his sinuous motif (also seen in a recent large-scale mural), a sound sculpture, as well as his co-opted vinyl record pieces. All the principals behind the showing were present (see above – […]

Openings: Kris Kuksi for “Go West” @ Mark Moore Gallery

Just this past Saturday night, the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles hosted Go West, a joint show between Kris Kuksi and David Ellis curated by Joshua Liner that is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York last May where the two galleries roles were flip-flopped. For his part, Kuksi brought along several of the large mixed media assemblages that he is famous for. These time-intensive gothic creations are incredibly detailed and for those of you in the LA-area that have never seen one before in person, here […]

Openings: Neck Face – “Simply the Worst, Nasty Neck Face” @ New Image Art Gallery

We aren’t sure how you spent your Friday the 13th, but AM headed over to New Image Art to attend the new show and print release party from Neck Face (interviewed). The West Hollywood showspace, which was empty the night before when we stop by to check out the setup, was now packed with friends, well-wishers, collectors, and art lovers who came out to see how nasty the street and graffiti artist would get. Simply the Worst, Nasty Neck Face isn’t the first exhibition Neck Face […]

Openings: Dan McCarthy – “Dear Science” @ Gallery 1988 – Venice

Last weekend, the Venice location for Gallery 1988 presented a whole new body work from Dan McCarthy (interviewed). Dear Science is the New England-based artist’s third solo with the gallery (see 2010 and 2011) and featured a series of originals as well as limited edition offerings. Known for his vibrant renderings of different times of day including dawn and dusk where the color and lighting can be quite stunning, McCarthy’s work documenting the great outdoors brings on a feeling of quite reflection when viewing the paintings. The show runs through the 28th. Photo […]

Preview: “Simply the Worst, Nasty Neck Face” @ New Image Art Gallery

Haven’t found a way to celebrate your Friday the 13th yet? You may ask who celebrates that day… Well, if there is one artist who does, it would be Neck Face (interviewed). In fact, he will be at New Image Art tonight with a selection of original work with a show entitled Simply the Worst, Nasty Neck Face. Along with taking over the entire showspace with his special touch, he’ll be releasing two limited edition print editions entitled Not One F*@k Will Be Givin and Bad […]

Continuing the collaboration between two galleries on opposite coasts, this Saturday night (July 14th) sees the opening of Go West at the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition, which will be curated by Joshua Liner Gallery, is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York showspace last May which was curated by Mark Moore. This time around, Kris Kuksi with his intricate assemblages and David Ellis with his award-winning trash sound experiments will be the highlighted artists. Discuss Kris Kuksi here. Discuss […]

Openings: Andy Kehoe – “Into The Depths” @ Thinkspace

Last weekend, the Andy Kehoe unveiled a new selection of work featuring a new technique of layering his paintings with resin (and even some local flora). Despite the use of a new medium, Into The Depths at Thinkspace Gallery still highlights the reasons why the Pittsburgh-based painter is popular with his fans – autumnal imagery and colors, mysterious characters, and imaginative backgrounds. This added three-dimensional element just elevates the work to the next level and must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Photo credit: ©Carlos Gonzalez. Discuss this […]

Streets: CYRCLE. – “Beautiful Disaster” (Los Angeles)

Recently, we saw CYRCLE. at our City Of Fire exhibition (covered) where they showed an interactive piece that had the crowd mesmerized by its spinning panels. Now, they are back on the streets and before last week’s holiday hit, they painted a mural named Beautiful Disaster, which is a continuation of their Cut It Out series which began last year with a wall featuring a flower gun. This latest mural at West Hollywood’s The Roxy was created in conjunction with with Poster Child Prints, who will be releasing their first […]
