Streets: Yoskay Yamamoto (Los Angeles) Part II

After coming off an impressive exhibition at Lebasse Projects (covered) where he showed his versatility by focusing on sculptural works, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) decided to try something new in his artistic career and go large scale (see in progress pics here). Set up through Branded Arts, the mural is actually his first and it clearly showed that he can paint his signature style on not only the small canvas. Using a variety of stencils to create an interesting pattern of white stars blending onto the […]

Coming up next week in Los Angeles, a unique opportunity exists for the fans of surrealist Naoto Hattori – he actually plans to attend the opening of his show Mind Project. For years, collectors have marveled at the psychedelic and hyper-detailed paintings of the Japanese artist, but have never had the chance to meet the man himself and pick the mind to see what is behind his incredible imagination. The time has now come, head over to Copro Gallery in Santa Monica on May 19th […]

Openings: Barry McGee @ Prism

Just hours ago, the PRISM gallery in Los Angeles opened their doors to graffiti royalty Barry McGee’s solo showing and the multitude of fans, collectors, and well-wishers who turned up to take in the new body of work. Despite his part as a pallbearer in a recent mural by Sever, the Bay Area stalwart known as Twist demonstrated to the world that his art form was still very much alive with an impressive display featuring paintings, photos, sculptural work (some cleverly motorized), and his signature clusters […]

Fans in the area better make plans to be there tomorrow night, May 11th (6-9 pm) as solo shows from Mr. Twist in Southern Cal are pretty rare, especially with the potential of the architectural showspace that he will be able to install his work in at his leisure. On Saturday night (May 12th), the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City will be welcome Mia Araujo (interviewed) and her paintings into their showspace for her first solo show. Like scenes from a great play or movie, certain scenes are expertly weaved into a cohesive narrative, all rendered in lush detail. Take a […]
