Yoskay Yamamoto // LA Film Festival

Those of you who have seen billboards advertising for this year’s LA Film Festival may have recognized the imagery of Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed). The Los Angeles-based artist’s familiar characters and palette also grace the materials associated with the event including website and newspaper ads. Those of you who remember seeing the September 2016 issue of Juxtapoz may recognize this image from James Jean (interviewed) that will be released as a print soon. Bouquet was also featured in the Juxtapoz x Superflat show (covered) in Vancouver last year, co-curated by Jux’s Pricco and Takashi Murakami. Joe Ledbetter recently revealed images of his upcoming collaboration with IKEA featuring his iconic Mr. Bunny character. The limited edition glass rendition of his famous furry friend was created with the help of the Målerås glass factory in southern Sweden and will be part of the IKEA Art Event, the fourth of its kind (seen 2017’s event featuring posters). Tonight (June 8th) in San Francisco, First Amendment Gallery will be opening a joint show from Collin van der Sluijs and Super A. Entitled Back and Forth, the exhibition features collaborative works from the Dutch artists (something they have done often on the streets) as well as individual works. Super A’s paintings feature a dark sense of humor while wander Sluijs’ painting are more loose and free-flowing. Take a look at more preview images below (first five are collaborations). Previews: Kisung Koh – “Long Live the Polar Treasure” @ Thinkspace

This Saturday night (June 3rd), Thinkspace’s project room will play host to Kisung Koh’s first solo exhibition with the Culver City gallery. The Toronto-based painter is another young artist whose imagery touches on environmental issues as is evident with his choice of subject matter for this showing. Entitled Long Live the Polar Treasure, the new collection of oil paintings from Koh is entirely dedicated to the endangered polar bear and the displacement from its habitat, paralleling the Korean artist’s own life experiences of “deracination and the pangs of dislocated belonging.”
