On June 9th, Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome will be hosting a new solo show from Fuco Ueda entitled Yumei. Extensively utilizing natural materials in her work like powdered mineral pigments on paper, cloth and wood, together with acrylic paint, the Japanese artist has created a new body of work that lingers between reality and the dream world. Murals: The Draculas @ ETA Agency

We first got turned on to the work of The Draculas during this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii where they painted an amazing and surreal campfire scene. The Southern California-based duo, comprised of Gary Musgrave and Jeff McMillan, recently painted mural for the ETA Agency in Long Beach featuring a seaside city rampage kaiju battle. On August 5th, Los Angeles will finally getting that big solo show from Josh Keyes (interviewed) at Thinkspace Gallery that his fans have been waiting for all these years. It looks as though Implosion will have some paintings that continue his recent works that feature graffiti in natural and unusual settings. Previews: Adrian Cox – “Sensory Garden” @ beinArt Gallery

Following up on his showing with two other artists last year at beinArt Gallery, Adrian Cox will be opening a show on June 3rd. For his first solo in Australia, the St. Louis-based artist has created a new body of work entitled Sensory Garden, oil paintings featuring his signature “Border Creatures,” hybrid creatures that live in the the wilderness of the “Borderlands.” Each character is an amalgamation of the environment around them including flora, fauna, and crystallized mineral deposits. This Saturday, May 27th, Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be opening a retrospective of his screenprinted gig posters and fine art prints from the last 15 years. Hosted at Volcom Gardens in Austin thru June 18th, the exhibition will be Soto’s first in Texas and will be include over 60 pieces, spanning from 2002 to 2017. Many will be available for purchase, along with show and fine art editions of the Grim Reaper, his newest print. Discuss Jeff Soto here.

As we mentioned before, James Jean (interviewed) has a live and work space in West LA near Little Osaka. Called Hide Out, the house has already won multiple awards including the A+ Award from Architizer and the Honor Award for Residential Adaptive Reuse from AIA LA. The design of the remodel by Dan Brunn Architecture includes features like a 12′ x 14′ pivot door, a Japanese tea room inspired library, and wood stairs created by using an algorithm to calculate the most optimized curve based on a selection of […]

Over the weekend, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona hosted the opening of Flourish, a group show curated by Thinkspace Gallery. Over 100 artists contributed to the exhibition but the standouts for us were the murals from Esao Andrews and Nosego as well as a sweet hanging installation from Felipe Pantone. Releases: Mark Ryden – “Princess Praline and Her Entourage” Print

With his upcoming New York show featuring artwork from the ballet (covered) he worked on with the American Ballet Theater opening on May 20th, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will also be releasing an associated print on May 19th. Princess Praline and Her Entourage looks to be an image taking from some of Ryden’s concept art from his set and costume design work. The print will be produced in a run of 1000, measuring 13.5″ x 39″, and will be priced at $250 (a portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Ballet Theatre). Head […]
