Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) is getting ready to open her show “Babes in Toyland” next month at Copro Gallery.Â Judging from the preview, she has prepared another fantastic body of work with her delicate surrealism and visual double entendres.Â This is not a show to miss as she is showing with two other great artists, Amy Sol (interviewed) and Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed).Â See you all there on opening night (November 7). For those who enjoyed Candice Tripp’s (interviewed) twist on childhood myths and wives’ tales in August at the Carmichael Gallery, you will have to pay attention to her show opening at the Joshua Liner Gallery in November.Â With her unique composition and clever wit, we think art lovers in New York will welcome her first solo show in the States with open arms. This year’s Giant Robot Biennale opened last Saturday night at the Japanese American National Museum. To start things off, George Takei, (of Star Trek fame and now of Heroes fame), introduced and brought Eric Nakamura (interviewed) up on stage. Eric, one of the founders of GR then proceeded to give a speech and introduced some of the artists. Preview: Glenn Barr @ 323 East

Glenn Barr will be returning to Detroit for his first solo show there in seven years. The exhibition opening on October 28th at 323 East will include nearly a decade’s worth of original works, prints and published works (some new originals as well). He will also be releasing 35 limited edition, signed and numbered giclee prints sold exclusively for this show on opening night. On display will also be his fantastic bronze figure “Happiness” (seen above). Show card after the jump.

Friday night, AM had the pleasure of attending the preview opening of two shows at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. After moving from London to Amsterdam, Joe Ledbetter hit up Paris for the third leg of his European Amalgamation Tour (details here). This time, with a show at Artoyz entitled “Birds and Bees,” Joe once again brought a new body of work including paintings, sketches, prints and a special colorway of his Terror and Magnus toys. While Greg “Craola” Simkins worked on his painting just a few feet away, AM favorite Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) was busy working on yet another piece for her upcoming show “Hajimari – a prelude” for Jonathan LeVine (teased) later this year. Watching Audrey layer colors and skin tones delicately over an initial sketch on wood was a real treat as well as a great insight to her process. More pictures after the jump.
