Upcoming: Ekundayo for “Reflections of a New Generation” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On July 13th, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting the opening for a three-person show from Ekundayo (interviewed), Adam Caldwell, and Joram Roukes entitled Reflections of a New Generation. For his part, the LA-based Ekundayo has been hard at work in the studio creating new paintings for the show featuring his grotesque and surreal characters. Upcoming: Luke Chueh – “Random Acts of Sadness” @ Corey Helford Gallery

After a more exploratory body of work in 2011 (covered) where he worked with his take on contemporary art, it looks like Luke Chueh (featured) will return to Corey Helford with a collection of paintings closer to to his signature oeuvre. For those of you who couldn’t make it out to check out Into The Dark, a group exhibition in Newcastle’s Victoria Tunnel presented by Unit 44, here are some photos to give you an idea of what the experience was like. Openings: “California-Pacific Triennial” @ OCMA

Over the weekend, AM stopped by the Orange County Musuem of Art to take a look at the 2013 California-Pacific Triennial that just opened, in particular Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) installation. Along with some paintings he submitted, the Los Angeles-based artist also painted a room with his signature patterns and added some interesting adornments. Fecal Face Dot Gallery is getting ready for the opening of Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) latest exhibition entitled Interwoven. The Los Angeles-based painter had just exhibited at the end of the last year in her home city (covered), and now will continue to explore her Day of the Dead imagery for a showing in San Francisco on July 12th. Previews: Femke Hiemstra – “Fiebertraum” @ Merry Karnowsky

Dutch artist Femke Hiemstra will be opening a solo show this Saturday, June 22nd, at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. The new body of work, collectively entitled Fiebertraum or Fever Dream, draws inspiration from near and far like song birds that came to visit her garden during the colder months and the Indian Holi Phagwa festival.
