Openings: Matt Dangler – “Center Flame” @ Copro Gallery

A couple weekends ago, AM stopped by the Copro Gallery to check out the new paintings from Matt Dangler (interviewed). It has been awhile since we saw a large body of work from Matt (2009), so we were curious to see what Center Flame would reveal. What we saw was a collection of oil paintings that showed he still had a touch for the surreal, an imaginative collection of bizarre beasts, as well as continued references to his love for fish and things aquatic. Discuss […]

Update: Collection Selim Varol @ me Collectors Room Berlin

Earlier this month, we brought you a preview of uber-collector Selim Varol’s show at me Collectors Room Berlin where a portion of his treasured toys and artwork acquired through the years would be on display. The exhibition opened just this past weekend, and for those in the US celebrating Memorial Day, we thought a glimpse of his USA-themed wall would a good starter image for an update on the setup. Make sure you stop by to see for yourself if you are in the area as […]

Openings: Gary Taxali – ‘My Feelings Like You’ @ Outsiders

The AM UK calendar for attending art openings has been pretty jammed of late, but one that we were sorry to have missed was Gary Taxali’s show My Feelings Like You at the Outsiders gallery in London earlier this month. We’ve been fans of Taxali’s unique take on mark-making for around a decade, and surprisingly this is his first solo showing in the UK. Gary recently sent us these pictures from his visit to the UK for the opening night, and it seems that UK fans […]

Make sure you stop by to check it out for yourself before it closes June […]

Preview: Chris Peters – “The Soul Never Sleeps” @ Last Rites Gallery

This Saturday night (May 26th), the Last Rites Gallery will be hosting The Soul Never Sleeps from Chris Peters in what will be his second solo show at the gallery (see 2010). About the 12 works he created for the exhibition, the LA-based artist states – “In this show I continue the search for beauty in dark places. I love that uneasy twilight place between life and death, between reality and unreality, between hope and despair. I use the vocabulary of Vanitas and Catholic religious […]

Mars-1 x David Choong Lee, Damon Soule, & Oliver Vernon – “Symbiosis Eclipse” Painting

Apparently, the staff at AM were not the only ones squinting their eyes trying to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse several days ago. Members of the Furtherrr Collective, Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon, who only recently collaborated on a large mural in Arizona (covered) got together for round two – this time welcoming another painter in the crew to participate as well – David Choong Lee. The symbiotic piece, which was completed at Pyramid Lake, looks like if was inspired by the […]
