Teaser: Amy Sol – “Numina” @ Corey Helford Gallery

It has been over a year since Amy Sol (interviewed) showed at Corey Helford Gallery where she will be returning for a solo coming up in March. This newest painting, entitled Bonfire, sees the Las Vegas-based painter continuing to hone in on a more on her central characters as well as develop more depth to her works, some of which we saw first hand at a recent group show in Los Angeles. Last weekend, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery kicked off the new year with two fresh shows. First was an exhibition curated by one of our favorite street art blogs – the Wooster Collective. Recently, Thinkspace Gallery hosted a solo exhibition by artist Esao Andrews (interviewed) entitled Nowhere. The night featured a great collection of artwork that touches upon various themes which fuse a sense of reality with an aura of the fantastical. Releases: Chet Zar – “The Dead Pope” Bronze

Although there have been resin versions released previously, this newest iteration of Chet Zar (interviewed) limited edition sculpture, The Dead Pope, is in bronze. Signings: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Nucleus Gallery

Continuing his whirlwind books signing tour, James Jean (featured) will be at the Nucleus Gallery this Saturday, January 14th (6-9pm) in Southern California. Spots he has already hit up that we had the chance to attend include Reed Space in NYC and the LACMA, where we walked away impressed with the beautiful reproduction of his paintings from the Rebus show at Martha Otero’s in the 240 page publication. The long awaited first book from provocative oil painter Michael Hussar entitled White: A Decade is finally ready for release.
