Preview: “Dark Water” @ Copro Gallery

When you give an artist of Martin Wittfooth’s (interviewed) caliber carte blanche to curate a show, what else can you expect but a stellar lineup of painters and contributed work that aheres to a high standard. Dark Water opens this Saturday, November 12th at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica with participants encouraged to thematically base their pieces on the title of the show. For those who liked the lineup of the first part of La Luz de Jesus’ 25th duo of anniversary show, you will enjoy photos of round two. As we indicated in our preview of the work for the exhibition, the artists invited to celebrate Billy Shire’s illustrious curatorial career are the cream of the crop including Al Farrow with his amazing mosque created with the help of bullets and gun parts. Teaser: Mars-1 @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

On 11/11/11, San Francisco will be the site of Mars-1’s (featured) latest solo show, his first in the area since 2005. The new body of work will be hosted at a temporary location (248 Clement St. @4th Ave) as the Fecal Face Dot Gallery’s main space was the victim of a fire recently. We hope to expect more otherworldly paintings, full or organic and perhaps alien lifeforms as well a continued exploration of some black and white imagery. Showcard after the jump…

Preview: “Homeroom” @ Subtext Gallery

Coming up on November 11th, the Subtext Gallery in San Diego will be hosting a group show entitled Homeroom. Curated by Christina Conway and featuring Allison Sommers, Audrey Kawasaki (featured above), Catherine Brooks, Chris Ryniak, Jeya, JUURI, Kelly Vivanco, Nimit Malavia, Tran Nguyen, Yoskay Yamamoto, among others, the showing encourages the artists to reinterpret a piece of art created during their childhood. Releases: Joe Ledbetter – 12″ Mutant Bunny (Hand Painted) Part II

Several months ago, we brought your attention to the first set of hand-painted mutant bunny sculptures from Joe Ledbetter. The LA-based painter and art toy mogul has not released the next five of what will be an eventual total of 40. The 12″ figures (sculpted by Pretty in Plastic) are priced at $1500 and should be the crown jewel in the collection of any fan of Ledbetter’s three-dimensional work. Over the weekend, AM stopped by Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles to take a look at Jeremy Fish (featured) part in Rise of the Underground. Exhibiting alongside Kenichi Yokono, the standout pieces from the bearded one were his exquisite and imaginative woodcuts, an extension of the work we saw in NY in July. Earlier this month, alongside Laurie Lipton, another solo entitled Internal Clock was put on display from painter Tin (interviewed) This second showing with the New York gallery featured his world of human and animal subjects whose bodies have been intermingled with machinery creating bionic hybrids, although it looks as though half of the paintings don’t touch on this theme.
