Releases: Joe Ledbetter – “Colossus Bunny”

Collectors of art toys out there know that one of the old school holy grails out there are the original Wheaty Wheat figures from Joe Ledbetter – Mr. Bunny, Snow Bunny, and Lava Bunny. After a six year hiatus, the signature character from Mr. Ledbetter is back; this time in a 48″ tall fiberglass edition appropriate entitled Colossus Bunny. The run will be very limited and cost about $4000 depending on the retailer and edition. More details including the new design after the jump…

Showing: Jonathan Viner & Elizabeth McGrath @ Sloan Fine Art

AM stopped by the LES district last week in New York to catch the latest show from Jonathan Viner and Elizabeth McGrath held at Sloan Fine Art (previewed). Jonathan’s exhibition Computer Science tugged at our heart as it brought back nostalgic memories of a time that has faded from our view by taking us on a retro journey when our parents were young, cool and of course rocking the over-sized electronic systems. Viner’s style seemed to capture that tinted and earthy style of the seventies […]

For each city that Cirque du Soleil performs in, Safewalls commissions three artists to create a piece, which is then printed into a regular edition of 300 prints and […]

Openings: KMNDZ – “The Heaviest” @ Fifty24SF

Last week, AM stopped by Fifty24SF, literally right next door to the Josh Keyes opening at Fecal Face (covered), to check out the new paintings from KMNDZ. The Los Angeles-based artist brought along his boys (they recently worked on a large-scale painting with him), up north to the show with him making it a family affair. Take a look at all the opening photos for The Heaviest after the jump…

Preview: Souther Salazar – “You Come Too” @ Jonathan LeVine

This Saturday night at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Souther Salazar returns almost two years after his last solo there (covered) with a new deeply personal body work entitled You Come Too. Not only his family inspired, given advice, and/or helped with these new pieces (details on his blog), but it sounds like he has drawn on some recent life experiences to put together the imagery for the show.  Along with his whimsical paintings, expect to see some intricate installation pieces as well as more of air […]

Ai WeiWei has been in the news all this week.  He is in TIME’s list of top 10 persecuted artists. A scarf collection is being designed based on George Condo’s art on Kayne West’s […]

At the end of the month, Sarah Joncas (interviewed) will be opening her new show at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Pneumatic” @ Roq La Rue

Master mixed media cut chemist, Kris Kuski, is set to reveal a new body of work in Seattle tonight, the first since showing at Art Basel Miami (covered) last December. Opening at Roq La Rue, Pneumatic will exhibit the Kansas-based artist’s talents through his signature remixing of found objects and model components (thousands in most cases!) into his self-dubbed “post industrial rocco” sculptural assemblages. These insanely intricate works should juxtapose nicely against the soft, eerie collection of paintings from Travis Louie (featured), entitled The Creature […]

Preview: Travis Louie – “The Creature Show” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, up in Seattle, The Creature Show will be opening up at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Some of Travis Louie’s (featured) famous vintage portraiture will be on display, and  this time of his Victorian-age characters and their unusual pets (although it looks like some creatures are going solo). AM really likes the detail in this new collection of paintings with more full-body perspectives and is looking forward to seeing it on the walls. More preview images after the jump…
