Interviews: Eric Joyner

As we mentioned a couple weeks ago, Eric Joyner will be opening his newest show at Corey Helford this Saturday, August 14th. We had the opportunity to get together with Eric for a session of questions and answers as well as getting an advanced look at some of the pieces in this show. Last night, the PRISM gallery on the Sunset Strip hosted a group exhibition “Come As You Are” in conjunction with New Image Art and RVCA. Openings: “Picks of the Harvest” @ Thinkspace Gallery (Culver City Artwalk)

Another stop on the Culver City Artwalk last weekend for us was “Picks of the Harvest” at Thinkspace Gallery. With the recent moves of several of our favorite galleries into the the area, the stroll through the art district has become alot more enjoyable and productive. Headlining the show were the tongue-in-cheek paintings from the always entertaining David MacDowell (featured). Also on display were many other works from the gallery’s roster of artists. Releases: Mark Ryden – “The Gay 90’s” Show Invite & Lapel Pin

AM attended the opening of Mark Ryden’s latest series of work “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” at Paul Kasmin Gallery (previewed). As expected, the space was packed with art enthusiasts that were clamoring to see Mr. Ryden’s amazing talents. Mark certainly didn’t disappoint as he created a cohesive body of works that are as diverse as they are great. Basel Week Miami ’09 – Joshua Liner Gallery @ Scope

One of the booths we were really impressed with during Art Basel Week was Joshua Liner Gallery’s showcase at SCOPE. It was a diverse group reflecting some of his successes this year from represented artists such as Matsu (interviewed), Kris Kuksi, and Evan Hecox.
