As we mentioned a couple weeks ago, Eric Joyner will be opening his newest show at Corey Helford this Saturday, August 14th. We had the opportunity to get together with Eric for a session of questions and answers as well as getting an advanced look at some of the pieces in this show. Last night, the PRISM gallery on the Sunset Strip hosted a group exhibition “Come As You Are” in conjunction with New Image Art and RVCA. Featuring an eclectic collection of artists across all genres, the show included Susanne Melanie Berry, Kelsey Brookes (featured), Richard Colman (interviewed), Dennis Hopper, Ryan McGinness, Cleon Peterson, Clare Rojas, Craig Stecyk, Deanna Templeton, Ed Templeton and a video by Cheryl Dunn of Dash Snow as well as the three artists below. Openings: “Picks of the Harvest” @ Thinkspace Gallery (Culver City Artwalk)

Another stop on the Culver City Artwalk last weekend for us was “Picks of the Harvest” at Thinkspace Gallery. With the recent moves of several of our favorite galleries into the the area, the stroll through the art district has become alot more enjoyable and productive. Headlining the show were the tongue-in-cheek paintings from the always entertaining David MacDowell (featured). Also on display were many other works from the gallery’s roster of artists. For those of you lusting over those special invites sent out for the Mark Ryden show last month at Paul Kasmin Gallery (covered), here is your chance. Porterhouse will releasing some of these at $90 a pop starting Thursday, June 10th at 8am (PST) which will be sure to sell out quickly. On right now at the Culver City Arts District is their annual Artwalk. After bringing you a look at what LeBasse Projects and Carmichael Gallery had to offer, we now turn our eye on another great gallery – Thinkspace. AM attended the opening of Mark Ryden’s latest series of work “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” at Paul Kasmin Gallery (previewed). As expected, the space was packed with art enthusiasts that were clamoring to see Mr. Ryden’s amazing talents. Mark certainly didn’t disappoint as he created a cohesive body of works that are as diverse as they are great. Mark Ryden is set to open his new show “The Gay 90’s” in Chelsea’s Paul Kasmin Gallery at the end of April. Back for his first solo since his “Snow Yak” show in Tokyo’s Tomio Koyama, Mark looks to take NYC by storm. Mark your calendars as it opens April 29th. Basel Week Miami ’09 – Joshua Liner Gallery @ Scope

One of the booths we were really impressed with during Art Basel Week was Joshua Liner Gallery’s showcase at SCOPE. It was a diverse group reflecting some of his successes this year from represented artists such as Matsu (interviewed), Kris Kuksi, and Evan Hecox. In addition, the show offered a sneak preview of the tremendous talent in stored for the coming year with works by Dave Kinsey, Dave Kassan, Tony Kanali, Tiffany Bozik, and Travis Louie (interviewed.
