Streets: World Roundup (Jul 7 – Jul 20)

A review of recent public works for our Streets World Roundup sees this new mural (seen above) from Shok-1 as one of the standouts. Entitled  The Consumer, the new piece makes a clever modification in the Pac-Man imagery that we are used to and again highlights the sublime translucent x-ray spraycan technique from the London-based artist. Other notable walls come from Know Hope x 2501 – Austria, Gaia – South Carolina, Cyrcle. – Poland, Borondo – UK, Aaron Li-Hill – New Jersey (source), Faith47 – […]

Rewind: Jul 7 – Jul 20

Time for another Rewind feature here on AM. Leading things off is a new video from the Wall Street Journal profiling Os Gemeos and their stunning new exhibition (covered) in Sao Paulo. Along with footage of the paintings and installations, the Brazilian twins talk about how their work is like a portal into the subconscious, the moment right before falling asleep. Other notable videos for your perusal include: Skateboard paintings by Matt Reilly (via TWBE). Ludo – The Chaos Theory. Art in video games with […]

Streets: World Roundup (Jun 15 – Jul 6)

The time had come for another Streets World Roundup here on AM. Leading things off is a complex new work of art from Felice Varini in Hasselt, Belgium for the “De Unie Hasselt-Genk” exhibition. The spiral-like piece which plays with perspective was painted on the roofs and facades of 99 buildings and can only be properly seen from one vantage point. Take a look at more here. Other murals that drew our attention in recent weeks includes work from Shok-1 x Remi Rough – UK, Strøk – Italy, […]

Streets: LUDO (Paris)

LUDO (interviewed) spent the last weekend putting up new series of pasteups around his hometown of Paris, titled Love and Riot. The work is strongly motivated by the current situation in France and some other parts of Europe where he feels extremist far right politicians and parties are gaining more and more popularity. This trend by him was first seen in Greece, Hungary, UK, The Netherlands, and lately in France. According to the artist, people are “choosing the option of non dialogue, direct violence, and are giving […]

Streets / World Tour: Ludo in Tokyo (Part II)

After a few days in Thailand (covered) and few days in Japan, Ludo (interviewed) has finished up his Asian tour recently. But before leaving Tokyo, he managed to put up couple of more pasters around the city, including this impressive double piece on a 6x6meter wall in the middle of Shibuya. Inspired by Asian culture and tradition as well as the Japanese high tech lifestyle, the works by the Paris-based artist fit the surroundings very well. His animals and plants morphing into weapons, machines and symbols of pop culture […]

Streets / World Tour: Ludo in Tokyo (Part I)

After visiting Thailand, and placing his works around Bangkok (covered), Ludo (interviewed) is continuing his Asian tour by visiting Tokyo. As much as he was taken by the cultural difference between Europe and Thailand, landing in Japan was a big change for the artist. As much as he was taken with the abundance of interesting spots and walls to work on in Thai capital, the French artist realized the situation will be very different in the Japanese capital. With every inch of public place being […]

Streets / World Tour: Ludo in Bangkok (Part IV)

We just received another series of works that Ludo (interviewed) created around Bangkok before leaving the city and continuing on his Asian tour. The other day, he discovered the popularity of a fake Viagra drug called Kamagra, so he created a piece dedicated to this phenomenon. While he was putting up other works around central BKK, he was approached by locals that seemed to be confused and entertained by the fact that someone was placing works outside like that, especially because they found these paste-ups […]

Streets / World Tour: Ludo in Bangkok (Part III)

French artist Ludo (interviewed) is still in Bangkok, finding out new things about the Thai people and the culture and placing his pieces on the streets. Since his work is focused on modified and morphed flora and fauna, he had to create a special piece for his temporary hometown. His received inspiration after finding out about the local’s obsession with the strongly aromatic durian fruit. He was also visiting a local Thai box club, and pasted one of his pineapple pieces around the corner from it, as well […]

Streets / World Tour: Ludo in Bangkok (Part II)

We just heard back from Ludo, (interviewed) who is still in Bangkok putting up works around the Thai capital and shooting a video for his upcoming solo show in the UK, all while fighting the hot humid weather. Last time we heard from him (covered), he started to get a better feel of the city and realized how many interesting spots there are. Even government and royal family-related buildings being strictly off limits, he is having a hard time deciding which walls to place his works on. The armed […]

Streets / World Tour: Ludo in Bangkok (Part I)

Ludo (interviewed) recently took off for Asia for the first time, and is currently in Thailand where he is experiencing the bustling and chaotic life in Bangkok. Along with undergoing the eclectic mix of new things and experiencing life outside the references and markers he grew up with, he is also creating some new street work in Thai capital. As elsewhere in the world he worked, locals are having hard time understanding the idea of pasting up posters that don’t advertise any brands. This kind of view raises […]
