“Overdose” (previewed) opened this past Saturday at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Upon entering the gallery, you will notice several great pieces from “Overdose” on display in the gallery’s front room. The majority of the exhibition’s body of work is displayed in the gallery’s main room. A table was set up over in the smaller wing of the gallery for the Hi-Fructose Collected Edition 1 book signing. Openings: Luke Chueh – “From Light Cometh Darkness” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Luke Chueh’s “From Light Cometh Darkness” (previewed) opened last night at Corey Helford Gallery. Anticipating a big crowd, AM dropped by Corey Helford about an hour before the show opening to take pictures of Luke’s artwork. It is a good thing we did, as there were already Luke Chueh fans eagerly waiting outside of the gallery when we arrived. When the gallery doors finally opened at 7pm, Luke Chueh did not disappoint. There was a very positive vibe throughout the entire night and Luke’s work was well […]

Preview/Interviews: Luke Chueh – “From Light Cometh Darkness” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Luke Chueh’s show “From Light Cometh Darkness” opens this Friday, March 20th at Corey Helford Gallery. Although this body of work encompasses his usual beloved but sad and/or tortured characters, Chueh does appear to be exploring some different techniques and themes. For example, look at the raw energy and loose strokes in his interpretation of Goya’s famous painting (seen above).  We sat down with Luke to talk about about this painting as well as other things in the interview after the jump…

Sad Trend – Stolen Art

Art heists are not new… The ones that get the most attention are the ones where millions of dollars worth of art is lost. Check out this article from Artinfo that highlights the top 5 art crimes of 2008. What does seem to be new though, is this disturbing trend of art being jacked from galleries that WE frequent and of less “expensive” art. Artists we are all familiar with such as Yumiko Kayukawa, Luke Chueh, Sylvia Ji, Margaret Kilgallen, Barry McGee, Clare Rojas, and […]
