Preview: “Celeritas” @ SURU

Motorcycle culture and fine art come together this Sunday, July 12 with “Celeritas,” a motorcycle culture themed art show for charity, opening at SURU in Los Angeles. The impressive lineup of artists will utilize elements from motorcycle culture as their canvases, including helmets, apparel and a 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa. All proceeds from the show will benefit Riders for Health, a non-profit that funds the transportation of medical personnel to remote communities in Africa. Openings: Mars-1 @ Billy Shire Fine Arts

AM stopped by Billy Shire Fine Arts to catch Mars-1’s latest show. Hot off his last show “Nuclear Mystics” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Mars-1 continued his direction of creating larger pieces that capture the grand-scale feeling his imagery evokes. The show also featured new resin statues in a color we did not see at his last show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Check out all the detailed pics after the jump.

Openings: Mark Dean Veca @ UAG – UCSD

Mark Dean Veca, who we just interviewed a couple days ago, opened up his show last night at the UAG gallery.  We had only seen the nice in-progress setup previously, but the finished installation looks even more amazing.  The show runs till March 15th, so stop by for a look if you have a chance.  As mentioned before, he will also doing an “artist talk” on February 26th if you are interested in attending.  We gathered some images for you to peruse after the jump.

One of the exhibitions we have been looking forward to this month is Mark Dean Veca’s “Paintings, Wall Drawings, and Collaborations” (teased) at the University Art Gallery at UC San Diego opening tomorrow, Jan 29th, 6 – 8:30 pm.
