Take a look at more pics sent to us from [...]

Volta ’11 – Mark Jenkins @ Carmichael Gallery

VOLTA was a fair during Armory Week that had each gallery bring a single artist to feature. LA’s Carmichael Gallery showcased the talents of street artist Mark Jenkins. Teaser: Armory Week ’11 – Mark Jenkins – “Family Room” @ Carmichael Gallery (Volta)

Continuing our look at this year’s upcoming Armory Week in New York, we turn our attention to the Carmichael Gallery who will have a booth at the VOLTA satellite fair. The LA gallery will be presenting Family Room, a installation of new sculptural works from Mark Jenkins converting their space into an unconventionally furnished family room which will in turn be his commentaries on the institutions of family and home. Discuss Mark Jenkins here.

Releases: Mark Jenkins – “Flower Signs & Twins”

Mark Jenkins is back in the house, this time with something for (almost) everyone. He’s released two editions based on his publicly installed pieces – Flower Signs and Twins. We at AM have always loved his unique sculptures & installations, but rarely do we see an editioned piece from Jenkins. What we like about this is that both are hand made and individually signed. Get yours here while you can. Check out the image of the twins after the jump.

Openings: “Re-Creation II @ Ogilvy & Mather by Carmichael Gallery

One of the highlights of Armory Week was a pop-up show like none other thrown by the Carmichael Gallery and Jun Lee at the Ogilvy & Mather’s Manhattan corporate offices. Imagine allowing urban talents running a muck through each floor of office hallways and elevator entry ways creating gigantic colorful installations, filling the places where normally bland office interiors greeted you every Monday. Even the customary plasmas that housed generic greetings/company slogans where remixed with a rad loop of the artists installing their newly minted [...]

Openings: Mark Jenkins & Aakash Nihalani @ Carmichael Gallery

Last week, important shows for two young artists, Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani opened jointly at the Carmichael Gallery (their last show before moving to the new Culver City location). Mark Jenkins brought many of his classics indoors such as the paper tape carousel horse and faceless hooded mannequins. In addition, the gallery setting allowed him to remix and play a little with his repertoire like with his usual multi-limbed bodies formed into a side table. This varied body of work, entitled “Meaning is Overrated” [...]
