Off The Roll Tape Sculpture Contest

AM has long admired the work of Mark Jenkins, and in particular, his tape sculptures.  Apparently 3M (maker of Scotch brand tape) has also taken notice and will hold a contest to see who can come up with the most creative use of the popular adhesive with a $5000 cash prize no less.  Submissions will be judged by a panel of artists including Jenkins.  The deadline is February 28, 2010 so time to get tapin’ (tutorial). Streets: Mark Jenkins

Mark Jenkins has sent us images of his new work from the BELEF Festival in Belgrade. The annual summer arts event, which focuses on the power of contemporary art, theatre and music in public space, aims to counter the closing down of local museums and dwindling attendance at gallery shows, and promote the European city’s potential as a cultural metropolis. FAME Festival: Mark Jenkins, Sam3, and Vhils

Mark Jenkins is shaking things up at FAME Festival (covered here). AM’s favorite tape sculptor has grabbed Grottaglie’s attention with an impressive installation on one of the town’s characteristically charming buildings.  As director Angelo Milano describes it, “Everybody was cool and smiling, including the old lady screaming, “Ggiovine!?! Ggiovvine!! Ascinne!” (English: “Hey boy!?! Hey boy!! Get down!”)

The vaults under Waterloo Station have been taken over by artistic director Kevin Spacey and his team from the Old Vic Theatre for their latest venture: Tunnel 228. A very cool “pop up” art show and theatre experience that seems to have come out of nowhere. Via a mysterious website which poses as a legit business, people can get free tickets to the event via a hidden link that allows the visitor to participate in the project. The show includes work by ATMA, Mark Jenkins, Antony […]
