Openings: Mars-1, Oliver Vernon, Damon Soule – “Momentum” @ Space Gallery

Arrested Motion was on hand for the Saturday, November 8th opening of “Momentum”, the three person show featuring Mars-1, Oliver Vernon and Damon Soule  at Space Gallery in Denver, Colorado.  The highlight of the exhibition was a 10′ by 23′ piece that was a collaboration of all three artists (called The Furtherrr Collective when assembled), a piece so large and powerful in texture, color, and size that it feels as if a riff has opened up and the wall has become a worm hole into […]

Previews: Mars-1, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon – “Momentum” @ Space Gallery

After dipping their feet into the waters of the Denver art community with a mural a few months back (covered),  Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon return tonight with a full plunge. Momentum at Space Gallery features the Furtherrr Collective together again (see 2012, 2013, 2013) with a showing that highlights how well their imagery go together – whether it is in collaborative pieces or collectively when their individual works are seen side by side. Head over tonight for the opening if you still can or plan a visit through December 2nd. Photo credit: The […]

Streets: Mars-1, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon (Denver)

Whenever some of the Furtherrr Collective boys get together (see 2012, 2013, 2013), you can expect something special to go down. That’s exactly what happened last week in Denver at Cultivate Colorado (666 Buchtel Blvd.) when Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon combined their powers create this otherworldly mural. With imagery from the three artists that mesh so well together, the new wall is a welcome addition to the cityscape and will stand as a testament to their talent. Showing: Mars-1 – “Toward A Distant Dawn” @ Martha Otero Gallery

Mario Martinez aka Mars-1 (featured) recently opened a solo at Martha Otero Gallery entitled Toward A Distant Dawn. The new body of work includes much of the creative output that we have seen from the Bay Area-based artist of late including monochromatic works, his colorful otherworldly paintings, and sculptural representations of his symmetric and geometric visions. Take a look at the photos below although it would be even more rewarding to see the work in person through July 19. Via Platinum Cheese. Discuss Mars-1 here.

Previews: Mars-1 – “Toward A Distant Dawn” @ Martha Otero Gallery

This Saturday night (June 7th), the Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting a solo show from Mars-1 (featured) entitled Toward A Distant Dawn. On display will be a new body of work featuring the Bay Area-based artist’s paintings of otherworldly imagery informed by cosmology, mathematics, altered states of consciousness, science,  among other things. This can be seen in the patterns, geometric-organic structures, and use of color gradients that are prevalent in Martinez’ work. Rounding the show will be a series of sculptural musings […]

Openings: Mars1, Damon Soule, Oliver Vernon – “Cosmic Terrain” @ Petaluma Art Center

Last month, the Petaluma Art Center north of San Francisco opened up an exhibition entitled Cosmic Terrain, the brainchild of Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon. As part of the Furtherrr collective, the three friends are no stranger to collaborative works, which along with individual pieces, is what this show is about. The cosmic musings of Mars-1, organic patterns of Soule, and the chaotic abstractions from Vernon fuse and meld so well together, it is sometimes hard to differentiate where one artist’s vision starts and […]

Showing: “Crucible” @ Mirus Gallery

Mirus Gallery, an exhibition space in downtown San Francisco founded and established by art collector/entrepreneur Paul Hemming, opens with a group show consisting of collaborative and individually created works by a dynamic collection of artists (that are also long-time friends), including Damon Soule, David Choong Lee, Mars-1, NoMe Edonna, and Oliver Vernon. The kinetic works in the exhibition burst with energy and sharp colors and represent the fine technical skill and expressive cosmic imagination of each artist. Check out some of the pieces in the […]

Openings: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery (Part 2)

Following directly on from Part 1 of our coverage of the busy Space//Form opening, AM now delves a little deeper pictorially into the artwork created for this huge group exhibition of 110 artists with a series of pictures where the art is more viewable (like the Mark Dean Veca installation above). To recap, all of the participating artists were given an identical 10×10 inch cradled timber panel by exhibition sponsor Ampersand as the medium to work on. The exhibition curator, Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis chose a brief […]

Preview: “Space//Form” Group Exhibition @ Breeze Block Gallery

As the opening of the Space//Form group exhibition draws ever nearer, and following on from our studio view, AM brings you a glimpse of some of the work in this huge show. Over 100 artists are participating in the exhibit, which opens on 6th September at Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The artists were each given the same brief and the same materials to work with and asked to explore and represent their interpretation of space and form within either the natural or built environment. Each piece of […]
