Openings: MS Fundraiser for Tim Strazza @ Joshua Liner Gallery

We all hit bumps in the road, but with a little help we can all overcome any obstacles. As mentioned previously, a good friend of AM and assistant director of Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was unfortunately diagnosed with a Multiple Sclerosis. We helped sponsor a fundraiser created by the gallery to generate funds that went to support Tim and his medical bills. It seemed that almost everyone came out of the woodworks to donate artwork for the charity auction including a heavy rotation of [...]

This Thursday, a very special art fundraiser will be held at Joshua Liner Gallery for our friend Tim Strazza who was unfortunately diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. We are helping to sponsor a benefit event where all proceeds will go to his medical bills. Some of your favorite AM artists have generously donated works for the cause which will be available via a silent auction. Online absentee bids will be available, so please contact the gallery. The art community has banded together to show their support. [...]

Openings: Mars-1 – “Afterglow” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

A couple weeks back, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted a new body of work from Mars-1′s (featured) alongside Miss Van’s Bailarinas (covered). For this show, entitled Afterglow, Mars-1 elected to paint several large-scale, acrylic works on linen allowing him to expound on a grander scale his geometric visions of otherworldly landscapes. If you are in New York this weekend, you don’t want to miss Afterglow, Mars-1′s (featured) latest body of work slated for a Thursday night opening at Jonathan LeVine. Staring at his detailed paintings always transports AM through his mind’s eye to strange alien civilizations and otherworldly landscapes.  We suggest you make time to do the same. A process video of Mars painting a work, as well as some further preview images after the jump.

Videos: Mars-1 & Doze Green Collaboration

These sorts of artistic collaborations always interest us here at AM, especially where we can see it happen in person like the Art Jams at Baby Tattooville (2008, 2009, 2010). Mars-1 (featured) is certainly not new working synergistically with other artists (Mars-1 x Oliver Vernon x Damon Soule), and the results of painting with Doze Green is no less spectacular. Take a look at the footage above as each express their thoughts behind the project. Hearing Doze talk about his inspirations – “renaissance paintings and [...]

Releases: MARS-1 “Infinite Tapestry” Print @ Electric Works

San Francisco’s Electric Works recently released a great new print by Mario Martinez aka Mars-1 (featured). The edition, entitled Infinite Tapestry, is a silkscreen print using florescent UV inks on black velvet-flocked paper. According to Electric Works, “the color background was applied with a process called ‘Split Fountain’ in which all 5 colors are put on the screen and mixed into the gradient in one pull as the squeegee goes across the screen. Each pull mixes the inks a little differently so each print is [...]

Preview: “Suggestivism” @ GCAC

Coming hot off the heels of Joe Sorren’s (featured) epic retrospective at the gallery, Suggestivism, a group exhibition curated by Nathan Spoor, opens this Saturday at CSUF Grand Central Art Center. It features over 50 different works (old and new) that embody Suggestivism, a term first used in the late nineteenth century describing an organic process of art making that suggests an ambiguous narrative. The exhibition features artists who illustrate ideas or subjects whose relationships point towards a loose and open narrative, constructed by the [...]

Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10 – “Urban Alchemists” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

With Art Basel Miami Beach swiftly approaching more and more details are beginning to surface from galleries involved in the new contemporary and street art movements. To coincide with this years event, Jonathan LeVine Gallery will be taking over a cavernous 2,200 square-foot space in the Wynwood Walls section, which last year was a successful inaugural run at an outdoor mural space within the fair conceived of by legendary Jeffrey Deitch and which will now become a permanent fixture for street artists to showcase their [...]
