Releases: Martin Wittfooth – “The Aviary” Print

If you remember, we first shared with you this massive painting from Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) back in 2013. The impressive piece featuring the powerful imagery of a leopard stretched above a view of TriBeCa was eventually seen at a showing with the Long Beach Museum of Art back in 2014 (covered). Now, the image is available as a print here if you are interested in adding it to your collection. Sized at 30″ x 21″, the limited edition will be produced in a run of 50 and cost […]

Upcoming: Martin Wittfooth @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Coming up in October of this year, Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) will be opening a solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. The last showing we attended in NY for the locally-based artist was back in 2011 (covered), so we are anxious to see what he has cooked up for an encore. From this glimpse he recently shared with his fans, it will certainly be a special show. Discuss Martin Wittfooth here.

Upcoming: Égrégore @ Yves Laroche

Starting on October 30th, Yves Laroche in Montreal will be hosting a massive group exhibition entitled Égrégore. The term refers to a kind of group mind which is created when people consciously come together for a common purpose and was used in relation to the Montreal Surrealists, best known as Les Automatistes in the 40s. The resurrection of the idea in relation to geography and purpose is definitely appropriate to this show which will run through December 20th. Participating artists include SHAG, Van Arno, Anthony Ausgang, Liam […]

Upcoming: “Masterworks: Defining A New Narrative” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

Coming up at the end of the next month, the Long Beach Museum of Art will be hosting an interesting group exhibition where 14 accomplished artists are asked to contribute one large scale painting from their careers which they deem as being pivotal. Because of this premise, most of the work included, we would imagine, will be taken on loan from collectors. The list of participants includes Esao Andrews, Sean Cheetham, Natalia Fabia, Alex Gross, James Jean, Josh Keyes, Mario Martinez, Greg Simkins, Nicola Verlato, Eric […]

Openings: Martin Wittfooth & Jean Labourdette – “De Anima” @ Roq la Rue Gallery

In their second collaboration, artists Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) and Jean Labourdette have created captivating new works for De Amina, which opened at Roq la Rue on May 1st.  Hidden meanings and symbolism are used heavily between the two works, with animals playing a heavy role in defusing the messages of consumerism and our culture’s constant need to upgrade.  Visually less obvious is the commentary on our psyche.  The show title itself lends us clues as De Anima translates to “the soul”, which also references writings by […]

Previews: Martin Wittfooth & Jean Labourdette – “De Anima” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, the first of May, the Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle will be hosting a new showing from Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) and Jean Labourdette entitled De Anima. The exhibition features the duo exploring the environmental, social, and spiritual impact of our technological advances. Fans will be in for a treat as both artists’ works are a joy to see in person – Martin’s oil paintings featuring animal characters rendered in his signature rusty palette (seen above) and Labourdette’s whimsical paintings on custom shaped surfaces. Discuss this […]
