Showing: Meggs – ‘Inner Demons’ @ Zero Cool / Red Bull Studios

A couple of weeks back AM went along to take a look at Meggs‘ first London solo exhibition entitled Inner Demons. Hosted by Zero Cool at pop-up space Red Bull Studios, Meggs pulled together a collection of work from the many facets of his output using a combination of paintings, sculpture, assemblage and an intense installation comprising a demonic masked figure seated amidst a variety of porn, hooker calling cards, spent blunts, Chinese hell money, a crack pipe and emptied bottles of alcohol. Moving further [...]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

I have been kindly asked by the nice guys here at AM if I would like to submit a weekly street art article from my Instagram feed. Without hesitation I accepted… For those of you who haven’t heard about Instagram, it’s an app on the iPhone where you can upload and share pictures, so all photos are taken with the iPhone. I mainly focus on the streets of Shoreditch and areas of Hackney, London, taking photographs of new and old streetart. So, here goes, I [...]

Streets: Meggs in Hong Kong

Just like other street artists before him (Michael De Feo and Zevs), some more successfully than others, Meggs decided to leave his mark on Hong Kong after opening his show at Above Second Gallery. He worked in some comic inspired pieces as well as repped for his Everfresh crew. More images after the jump…

Openings: Meggs – “King for a Day” @ Above Second

Last Friday night, Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong hosted “King for a Day” (previewed), a show by the Melbourne-based Meggs. Because of the close timing of a concurrent body of work opening in Australia last week, he decided to name both shows the same, both dealing with “exploration of dualities and opposites that uses pop-culture references and symbolism to represent status, power, death and innocence in a kind of abstract and mashed up way.” The collection of paintings and prints with imagery obviously influenced [...]
