As part of our survey of this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, we already brought you some highlights from the PULSE art fair. It’s now time to focus in on some of the booths that caught our eye. Basel Week Miami ’13: “Affordable Care” @ Mana Wynwood

One of the shows we visited during Art Basel Week was Affordable Care, curated by Flaunt Magazine. Held in the Mana Wynwood complex in Miami’s downtown district, this group exhbition explores the contradiction of the words “affordable” and “care”. This pairing of terms in the current world is sort of an oxymoron in a time of digital missives, healthcare glitches, and artistic free-for-all. The event brought together an interesting mix of artists working with diverse mediums, including photography, digital, performance art. The participants were Ben Jones, Melanie Pullen, […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Art Miami & CONTEXT

As we continue our survey of Art Basel Week in Miami, we turn our eyes to Art Miami and its sister fair CONTEXT. The combined exhibition space of the two events featured over 190 galleries and covered over 200,000 square feet. Strolling through the booths, we found artist new and old that drew our attention. As with last year, there was the controversial display of un-authenticated work purported to be from Banksy presumably from his recent art residency in New York. Enjoy more of our photos below… Discuss Art […]

This show utilized the top floor and held a selection of classic automobiles reinterpreted by a distinguished group of artists including Ron Arad, Bruce High Quality Foundation, César, Dan Colen […]

Basel Week Miami ’13 : Tracey Emin – “Angel Without You” @ MOCA (Miami)

We made sure to stop by the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art while in town for Art Basel Week to take in an impressive collection of works from Tracey Emin. Entitled Angel Without You, the exhibition includes the Why I Never Became a Dancer video purchased in 1998 by the MOCA, the first American museum to acquire work from the UK-based artist. Also included is a wide selection of the neon works she has become famous for including a large piece created for the courtyard that inspires the exhibition’s title. Take a look at […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: NADA Fair (Part I)

Another satellite fair we visited yesterday at Art Basel Week in Miami is the event put on by the New Art Dealers Alliance. The 11th Miami edition of the NADA fair included more than 90 galleries and was held at the Deauville Beach Resort. Their growing list of exhibitors include some familar names like The Hole, Andrew Edlin, Marlborough Chelsea, and Bill Brady KC (seen above with some nice Michael Manning paintings).
