Basel Week Miami ’12 / Openings: “Time Evaporates, Emotion Elevates” @ Wynwood Walls

Earlier this evening, AM stopped by Wynwood Walls to check out the opening of the Time Evaporates, Emotion Elevates group exhibition inside the new Nicewalk Gallery space. The show featured backlit lenticular paintings (or photos) alongside some original works from selected artists (Aiko, Ron English, Swoon, How & Nosm, Logan Hicks, Kenny Scharf, Futura) who have painted murals at the complex. The title comes from a quote from Tony Goldman (founder of Wynwood Walls), who recently passed, with whom many of the artists included had an especially […]

Streets: Invader (Hong Kong)

Invader recently brought his street invasion to Asia with this new piece in Hong Kong. According to his logs, the anonymous French artist has been to the city-state before and has mapped out some of the spots he has hit up, although this piece might be a legal one. In related news, the street tile specialist also made the front page of the Miami Herald and was also in the area recently based on the photographic evidence below. Miami photo via Qura Torial. We were shown fresh works from Ron English, Ray Ceasar, D*Face, Nick Walker, RISK, HUSH, Silvia Ji, Amy Sol, Meggs, just to name a few. Basel Week Miami ’11: Jason Shawn Alexander – “Undertow” @ 101/exhibit

Among the abundance of standalone exhibitions that AM attended during Art Basel Week Miami, one that stood out was Jason Shawn Alexander’s showing at 101/exhibit. Undertow came highly recommended by our friends at Hi-Fructose, and when we made it to the opening we could see why. The LA-based artist’s figurative work was large-scale, gritty, full of emotion & raw energy, and is certainly something you should check out if you are in the area through February 8th. More photos from the opening after the jump…
