Yesterday, AM stopped by PULSE, one of the satellite fairs of Art Basel Week Miami, and we were greeted by a pretty solid selection of art work from various artists and their galleries (after the fixed a lighting issue). Before focusing in a on a few things, enjoy this selection of photos of pieces that caught our eyes as we strolled through the compound housing the fair. More photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11: Underbelly Show

Last night, AM attended the opening of the Underbelly show in Miami featuring an impressive lineup of artists who all have participated in the surreptitious underground street art and graffiti project in New York. Not only did each artist contribute a quality work to the show, most of them were large scale. Anchoring the exhibition near the entrance was a wall of flatscreen TV’s all simultaneously playing high speed timelapse loops of the artists as they worked on murals for the project. Many more photos […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Marco Brambilla x Ferrari “RPM” Video Party

As promised, here are photos from the Ferrari x Marco Brambilla’s party that we attended earlier this week at Art Basel Week Miami. The centerpiece was the collaborative 3-D video installation from Brambilla entitled RPM (see the video here) that entertained guests from the worlds of art, fashion, design and music. The event was also the debut of the new 2012 model of the 458 Italia Spider. With music by Janelle Monae and Solange Knowles, the crowd rocked the night away at the unique architectural space at the […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Art Basel – First Look (Part II)

With so much eye candy at the main fair, we had to split out photos into two helpings. Headlining this second set are these clusters from Bay Area legend Barry McGee at the Cheim & Read booth featuring some abstract representations of spray cans arranged in a new way with some novel patterns. Other strong pieces seen were a unique piece from Mark Ryden utilizing a new technique, an oil from Lisa Yuskavage, various shiny objects from Anish Kapoor, and much more. See it all […]

So this was not only the perfect time to beat the crowds see the standout works like the Giacometti sculpture seen above, but also celebrity watch as they made their rounds looking for their blue chip artwork. Check out […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Underbelly Show

Remember that secretive and unprecedented undertaking in New York last year entitled the Underbelly Project. Toiling four stories underground in an abandoned subway station in New York, over 100 artists invited by PAC and Workhouse left their mark on the space with murals and graffiti. Although the original “urban gallery” was sealed and unaccessible, this environment will be recreated in Miami for the Underbelly Show opening from Dec. 2 -5 (78 NW 25th Street in Miami, FL). Not only will the exhibition feature photos that documented […]
