Showing: Jamian Juliano-Villani – “Sincerely, Tony” @ Massimo De Carlo (Milan)

Currently showing through the end of the month with Massimo De Carlo in Milan is an exhibition from Jamian Juliano-Villani. Entitled Sincerely, Tony, the new body of work from the American artist, who isn’t shy about appropriation, continues her voracious practice of gathering source material from things like as pop culture, TV, magazines, movies, and art, then filtering them through her mind followed by a collage-like approach of rendering them onto canvas into eerie and surreal compositions. Rounding out the exhibition is a site-specific installation that looks […]

Previews: Eron – “#present #past #sentiment #dust” @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

Today, Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan will be opening the #present #past #sentiment #dust solo by Eron. For this exhibition, the Italian artist prepared a series of never-before-seen works consisting of mixed media on paper, spray paint on canvas, and sculptures. The show is based on the same approach he has when painting walls and objects in public – by drawing inspiration from the perceptual phenomenon known as Pareidolia, an instinctive and automatic tendency to find familiar shapes in chaotic images. This phenomenon often helps rationalizing seemingly paranormal […]

Openings: “Mint Julep” @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

As part of their pre-summer program, Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan recently opened a group show titled Mint Julep. Featuring works by Maya Hayuk,  Cleon Peterson, Revok, and  Francesco Igory Deiana, the exhibition opened on May 18th and will stay on view through July 22nd. The idea of this show was to mix artists and their diverse styles into a fresh, attractive installation, similar to a Mint Julep cocktail, made by mixing bourbon, ice, sugar and mint into a refreshing drink. Viewers got to see Hayuk’s colorful, layered weave paintings that balance between tradition, psychedelic, strict […]

Streets: Os Gemeos (Milan) – Part I

After collaborating with JR (interviewed) in Paris on some meaningful pieces (covered), Os Gemeos traveled to Milan to paint the inaugural mural for the “Outside the Cube” project. Taking advantage of the shape of the Pirelli HangarBicocca building where trains were built in the twentieth century, as well as referencing from the close proximity of railway lines running parallel to the site, the two brothers decided to paint one of their iconic yellow-skinned characters hanging from the back of a subway car. Entitled Efêmero, the almost finished multi-story high […]

Previews: Josh Reames – “Wet & Wild” @ Brand New Gallery

Tomorrow night (April 9th) in Milan, Brand New Gallery will be presenting new works from Josh Reames in a solo entitled Wet & Wild. The Brooklyn-based artist’s paintings are almost collage like in their composition, putting together a stream of consciousness collection of subject matter. He explains – “One thing that I am really interested in is the way that the Internet—browsing, blog rolling, etc.—takes away the hierarchy of image importance, meaning, and connection… I think about painting in a similar way, where images, marks, art historical […]

Showing: Andy Rementer – “The Age Of Innocence” @ Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea

Andy Rementer is currently taking part in a double personal exhibition with Fulvia Mendini at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan. The artists joined forces through similar aesthetics of simplified, polished presentation, use of bright colors, and the nostalgia of illustrated children’s stories. Strongly influenced by Milan and its vibe, Rementer produced a body of work that depicts the daily life, routines and the people he met or saw around town. His visual language has been developed through the years from working  as an illustrator and cartoonist for newspapers such […]
