Previews: Patrick Martinez – “Buy Now Cry Later” @ Public Functionary

Opening on Friday, Nov 15, is a solo show by Patrick Martinez at Public Functionary in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Buy Now, Cry Later includes eighteen all-new works by the artist, including his signature neon signs and mixed-media paintings. The pieces feature pop-culture, music, and societal subjects that explore the contemporary crises of today. Having first previewed the show in Los Angeles, the Midwest will receive the full-on immersive experience for themselves – the third show ever at Public Functionary. Discuss Patrick Martinez here.

Geoff McFetridge @ Walker Art Center

Earlier this year, artist, animator, and graphic designer Geoff McFetridge visited Minneapolis to speak at the Insights Design Lecture Series 2013 at the Walker Art Center. While there, he also worked on a filmstrip style massive wraparound mural featuring his minimalistic imagery. Art Focus: Carmichael Collective

This week’s artist we are introducing to you is the Carmichael Collective, (a creative company located in Minneapolis, MN) and their humorous street interventions. Although they have a diverse set of works, including Urban Plant Tags the #LivingTrophy, our Art Focus is on their Bug Memorials. Featuring pimped out funeral paraphernalia for dead insects, the memorials include portraits, flowers, candles, and more.
