Miss Van, one of the feminine figureheads of street art, recently returned to her native France for her first solo showing there in three years. The exhibition, entitled Twinkles, at the Parisian branch of Magda Danysz featured paintings and drawings of her signature enticing “poupes” in various states of undress and costume wearing – with increasingly darker overtones. The year is going by fast – it’s already the middle of March. As usual, there are many interesting art openings to get out to this weekend including a show from Miss Van in France. Magda Danysz Gallery will be hosting Twinkles, a new body of work from the French street artist who hasn’t shown in her home country in a while. One of our astute readers in Copenhagen, Henrik Haven, recently took some pictures for us of the “Relationships” group show currently showing at Gallery Christoffer Egelund. The exhibition features three artists that we like – Tim Biskup, Miss Van, and Victor Castillo – as well as a fourth artists we weren’t familiar with – Michael Swaney. One the most well-known and celebrated female street artists, Miss Van, recently opened her show “She-Wolves” (previewed) at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. This new body of work featured the French artist’s signature “poupes” dressed up in animal attire although she seems to have taken it a step further with some of the characters possessing some very real mammary glands, demonstrated vividly in the amazing painting seen above (to the right). Last week, Miss Van brought her signature “poupes” for a well-received visit to the StolenSpace gallery in London. “Love Stain” (teased) was definitely a special show as it was a retrospective (with new works as well) that showcased the many stages and facets of her work. You can imagine the significance and breadth of this exhibition as the French but now Barcelona-based artist has been painting in the streets for almost 20 years. More images after the jump…

Hamburg-based collector Rik Reinking is displaying his collection of urban art for all to see at the Weserburg Museum in Germany. The show includes works from Herbert Baglione, Banksy, Blu, Boxi, Brad Downey, Mark Jenkins, Miss Van, Mode 2, Os GÃªmeos, Mirko Reisser (DAIM), Shepard Fairey, Space Invader, Swoon, Zevs among others. The exhibition will be supplemented by an attractive supporting program with workshops, walks through town, film evenings, discussions and work in the streets. Jeremy Fish’s “Ghost of the Barbary Coast” and Miss Van’s “Still a Little Magic” opened simultaneously tonight at FIFTY24SF Gallery. Check out the sick collaboration piece they did above. Fish’s work for this show hearkens back to the gold rush days of San Francisco where gambling, prostitution, and crime were part of the seedy Barbary Coast area.
