At the end of last month, Galerie C.O.A. in Montreal opened up a group show featuring artists who took inspiration from artistic movements or individual masters of the past, albeit with their own contemporary take on things. Curated by Sasha Bogojev, the exhibition included work from Eleanor Mccaughey, Pablo Benzo, Ted Pim, Erkut Terliksiz, Emilio Villalba, Sean Norvet, Kathy Ager, Julio Anaya Cabanding (seen above), Doping-Pong, Aldo Sergio, and Mathieu Cherkit.

On January 31st, Galerie C.O.A. in Montreal will be opening a group show curated by Sasha Bogojev featuring 11 international artists. Taking inspiration from renowned artistic movements or individual masters, these artists rework what they have learned to create New Classics. Participants include Eleanor Mccaughey, Pablo Benzo, Ted Pim, Erkut Terliksiz, Emilio Villalba, Sean Norvet, Kathy Ager, Julio Anaya Cabanding, Doping-Pong, Aldo Sergio (seen above), and Mathieu Cherkit.

On September 29th, Matthew Namour Gallery will be presenting Kevin Cyr’s (interviewed) first solo show in Montreal entitled Homage. The new body of work will be a continuation of the American artist’s case studies of everyday work vehicles – the more imperfections, signs of age, and graffiti – the better. As is his usual practice, Cyr spent time documenting and then painting his subject matter while telling their story through his art. Discuss Kevin Cyr here.

C.O.A. Gallery in Montreal will be opening a solo show by Isaac Cordal on October 29th. The Spanish artist is currently adding final touches to Urban Inertia, an installation that will continue the public interventions he has been working on around the city in the last few weeks. Cordal is known for his small cement, now resin, sculptures that he places in cracks in the walls, puddles, sidewalks, rooftops, and other nooks and crannies in the urban environment. After bringing you a look inside the Cyrcle. (featured) studio as they prepped for their Montreal solo, we now have some photos from the opening to share with you. Nothing Exists at Station16 Gallery (showing through July 4th) features the Los Angeles duo’s new works explore themes of themes of religion, science, and duality with their signature design aesthetic. Coming up in a few weeks, the Cyrcle. (featured) crew will be opening a new show at the Station16 Gallery in Montreal. It looks like Rabz & Davey’s artistic journey has taken a philosophical turn with this new batch of work collectively entitled Nothing Exists. On the 26th of January, Galerie C.O.A in Montral will be opening Récidive, a solo show by the “fire painter” Spazuk. The distinctive technique he uses is called fumage, which allows him to use the flame of a candle or torch as a “paintbrush” to create his paintings with trails of soot. He later manipulates these trails by using various needles, razors, and makeshift bird feather pens, which result in incredibly detailed black and white works on canvas, panel or paper. As their closing exhibition for the year, Galerie d’art Yves Laroche in Montreal opened a huge group show titled Égrégore. Starting on October 30th, Yves Laroche in Montreal will be hosting a massive group exhibition entitled Égrégore.
