Streets: Invader (Los Angeles)

As you know, there is a little show called Art in the Streets set to open to the public this weekend in Los Angeles. Besides work inside the MOCA and the surrounding walls, some artists like Invader here could not resist hitting up other parts of the city with their work. The clock is ticking as the artists are putting the finishing touches on the Art in the Streets exhibition at the MOCA Los Angeles. The Gabriel Orozco exhibition at London’s Tate Modern has been on since mid-January. AM is a fan of both the artist and this diverse yet cohesive show, curated by Jessica Morgan and Iria Candela. We’ve already been to visit three times. Vernissage TV recently put together some nice video footage of the George Condo exhibition in New York along with an interview with Gary Carrion-Murayari, associate curator at the New Museum. The first major retrospective of the American artist in the U.S. is interestingly not arranged chronologically but by different themes he’s explored in his paintings over the years. Berlin-based American artist, Brad Downey, has been keeping himself rather busy lately. His first show in the Middle East, We Are Beginning: Personal Projects in Public Spaces, opened this week at Cuadro Fine Art Gallery in Dubai. In addition, Downey’s work features in the group show What Is Contemporary Art? which opened Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark. Foster + Partners wins Hong Kong cultural district battle

The West Kowloon Cultural District, which we first told you about in 2009, has finally chosen a design for the planned $2.8 billion 50 hectare arts hub. The firm to win out were the favorites, Foster + Partners, the architects who were also responsible for the breathtaking Chep Lap Kok Airport, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, and the Bilbao Metro, although the original canopy design has been scrapped.
