Video: Murakami x McG x Dunst – “Akihabara Majokko Princess”

Last year, we told you about the video that Murakami, Kirsten Dunst and McG were creating to be shown at the Tate Modern “Pop Life” exhibition (here). You can now see entire crazy video, (Update: We have removed the link to the video which was apparently uploaded without the authorization of Kaikai Kiki.) “Akihabara Majokko Princess”, which depicts Kirsten running around the streets of Akihabara in wild cosplay costumes while singing a cover of the Vapors’ “Turning Japanese”. Did you catch Nigo from a Bathing Ape in there too? […]

Video: Colin Christian x Kanye West – “Glow in the Dark Tour”

His love affair with Murakami and KAWS are well documented, but did you know that Kanye West also admires the work of Colin Christian? In a recent video (above) promoting his “Glow in the Dark Tour” book, one of Christian’s signature sculptures can be seen, at the 1:26 & 2:56 marks to be exact. Discuss Colin Christian here.

Benefit: MOCA gala raises $3.5 Million

Resuscitated from the brink of death, Los Angeles’ MOCA held their 30th anniversary gala last weekend to kick off their new exhibition “Collection: MOCA’s First Thirty Years.” The black-tie affair raised $3.5 million more for the institution and was capped off by the Frank Gehry-designed hat wearing Lady Gaga’s performance (seen above) with the Bolshoi Ballet where she sang and played on a rotating pink grand piano created by Damien Hirst. The piano, which can be seen after the jump, sold for $450,000 at the […]

Video: Seonna Hong – “Fountain” by Sara Lov

Check out this music video “Fountain” that Seonna Hong worked on for her friend – singer Sara Lov. Utilizing the delicate imagery and patterns from Hong (animated by Marco Morandi), the beautiful video successfullly brings her paintings to life. We are definitely looking forward to more projects like this from Hong as well as other artists we like.  Check out other successful music collaborations we have covered in the past here. Discuss Seonna Hong here.

Video: Murakami x McG x Dunst – “Akihabara Majokko Princess” in “Pop Life” @ the Tate Modern

When we brought you a first look (here) at the A-list “Pop Life” exhibition at the Tate Modern yesterday, we neglected to mention that the short film “Akihabara Majokko Princess” from Murakami was included. Created in collaboration with one of Hollywood’s hottest directors, McG (Charlies Angels & Terminator Salvation), the video is yet another extension of Takashi’s renowned short film artform which previously featured Louis Vuitton, Inochi, & Kanye West. Starring Kirsten Dunst singing a cover to the Vapors’ “Turning Japanese”, the video includes footage of Dunst dancing through the […]

Video: Date Farmers x N.A.S.A – “A Volta”

Coachella-based artist duo the Date Farmers collaborated with the N.A.S.A (North America South America) project on a music video that premiered earlier this week. Entitled “A Volta,” the video featuring Sizzla, Amanda Blank, Love Foxxx definitely had the Mexican-American vibe going with the Date Farmer’s iconic robots creating havoc.  Check out the behind the scenes details at Boing Boing. This video is the third of the series (we showed you the videos with Shepard Fairey and Marcel Dzama previously). Discuss the Date Farmers here. Check […]

Preview: Charming Baker “The Meaning of Everything” London Exhibition

It’s good to see our friend Charming Baker, whom we met last year at an LA group show, back in the spotlight. He sent us this addictive video featuring his artwork with the song “Some People Might Think You Look Ridiculous” by The Beautiful South. You can check out this painting at his upcoming show “The Meaning of Everything” at 50 Redchurch Street, London E2 7. This new body of work is a solo exhibition of new paintings and prints. The show runs from June 5th […]

Marcel Dzama & Shepard Fairey x N.A.S.A.

Marcel Dzama recently collaborated with David Byrne on this video from N.A.S.A. featuring the track “The People Tree.” This isn’t Marcel’s first foray into the music field as he has done album cover work in the past for artists such as They Might Be Giants and Beck. If you remember, N.A.S.A. collaborated with Shepard Fairey on a previous music video “Money” (seen below). We wonder what other artists they have lined up for the future. Partially via Boing Boing thru TWBE. Check out other music […]

Dave Cooper x Danko Jones

Danko Jones – King Of Magazines from Bad Taste Records on Vimeo. Baby Tattooville alum Dave Cooper and animator Nick Cross recently teamed with Canadian rock band Danko Jones to produce a music video for their song “King of Magazines.” Oddly, this is exactly the sort of video you would expect if classic Cooper characters were animated – a bouncy lush world filled with his voluptuous and lascivious women strangely pulsating to the beat. Make sure you check out this interview by Hi-Fructose about the […]
