Dabs Myla Create New MTV Movie Awards Logo

With the 2015 MTV Movie Awards set to go live on April 12th, the television channel has revealed the new logo designed by Dabs Myla. You may remember that last year, KAWS was tapped work with the VMA’s, so it’s not surprise that they have continued hiring on talented artists that their viewers can relate too. Look for the Los Angeles-based couple to create some installations for the awards show as well. The duo told MTV News – “We wanted to make something really bold and energetic that […]

Releases: Sid Vaga x Maya Hayuk – “The Pilar Project”

One of the releases coinciding with Basel Week Miami is this wicked project between Maya Hayuk and DJ / producer Sid Vaga. The idea behind this release was that “the best collaborations come from two voices that create a third, unique voice.” Known for creating art that is inspired by the neon lights and party culture, this is not the first time Hayuk has mixed art with music. The Brooklyn-based artist created an exclusive, limited edition record sleeve from her recently released and sold out silkscreen edition Multiverses #2. “The idea for this collaboration […]

Album Covers: James Jean x Linkin Park – “The Hunting Party”

With the release scheduled for next month (June 17th), it’s time to tell you about James Jean’s (interviewed) latest project – working on Linkin Park ‘s new album artwork. If you remember, he also created Taleb Kweli’s cover art back in 2012. The latest effort from Jean sees the American rock band working off the sublime sketches (seen below) from the artist, currently on sabbatical somewhere in Asia, and utilizing 3D modeling to create the images seen in promotion as well as on the cover […]

Damien Hirst x Rihanna for GQ

For their 25th anniversary issue, British GQ enlisted the help of Damien Hirst to design the cover along with Rihanna. Styled with snakes entwined on the R&B singer’s body and on her head as well as slit eye contacts, the spread certainly has references to the mythical Medusa. For those who want a copy, the December 2013 issue hits the newsstands soon. Via Highsnobiety. Discuss Damien Hirst here.

Streets: Cyrcle. x Woodkid (Los Angeles)

The always productive Cyrcle. crew has blessed Los Angeles with another epic mural. This time, on a wall provided by Branded Arts, the boys collaborated with Woodkid on a piece that is located on the hotbed art gallery Hollywood intersection of Santa Monica Blvd and Highland. Although it features the visual artists working with a musician, rather than being a marketing piece for a new album release or a advertisement, the work explores the aesthetic and concept of his music. It rewards followers and fans […]

Preview: KAWS for MTV VMA’s

With this year’s Video Music Awards from MTV only several days away, installation has already started for the event. As mentioned when news first broke of KAWS’ involvement with the design of the special 30th installment of the award show, held in Brooklyn for the first time, there was going to be a a 60-foot Moonman (this year’s prize also remixed with the Brooklyn-based artist’s design) on stage, his tallest Companion ever. As you can see from the photo above, this impressive piece is already in place […]

MTV VMA Moonman Reinvented By KAWS

It was a giant step for mankind when Buzz Aldrin first stepped on the moon and now, another big step has occurred in the career of KAWS as he was tapped to re-design this year’s MTV VMA “Moonman” trophy. His iconic work is continuing to hit the mainstream, especially after his inflatable companion was revealed in last year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. Now the 2013 winners of the VMA’s, set to be held for the first time at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, will receive a prize from the locally […]

Album Covers: Tim Barber x Elton John – “The Diving Board”

Continuing a long line of artists seen here on AM who have collaborated on album covers, a Tim Barber image graces the cover of Elton John’s soon-to-be released The Diving Board. The former photo editor of famed Vice Magazine’s iconic shot of a man standing on edge, over looking an ocean, looks to be somewhat modified to fit the format – if you remember, this piece was seen at his solo show in Los Angeles in 2010 (covered). If you are looking for more from Barber, check […]

Steve “ESPO” Powers – Remixed Kanye West “Yeezus” Cover

ESPO (featured), who recently showed in Brussels at the Alice Gallery (covered), found time for a fun project last week. Taking the tempting blank slate of the minimalistic cover of Kanye West’s new Yeezus album, Mr. Powers covered the entire case with his characteristic imagery. The alternate cover takes quotes from controversial rapper himself as inspiration for the creation. Learn a little more about it here. Discuss ESPO here.
