Releases: Kid Acne – ‘Council Pop’ (screen-printed 10 year anniversary edition)

Kid Acne’s coming back through like an amber gambler with the re-release of his 2003 album Council Pop in a special 10 year anniversary edition (has it really been 10 years?). AM readers will probably be more familiar with the graffiti / street art side of Kid Acne’s creative output, but if you haven’t heard his Yorkshire infused hip hop, then this could be an ideal intro to the world of Eddy Fresh. Streets ahead of his debut Rap Traffic, Council Pop lacks some of the […]

Videos: Gary Baseman X Die Antwoord – “Buckingham Warrior” on MOCAtv

MOCAtv just released their newest video Buckingham Warrior, a tale inspired by Gary Baseman’s (interviewed) father who survived the holocaust. No Doubt will be putting out their first new album in over 10 years, Push and Shove, and street artist El Mac has been tapped to design the cover. Lead Singer Gwen Stefani and her husband Gavin have been fans of Miles’ work for a while and have his work in their collection, so it only seemed natural for them to contact him for the collaboration. After a photoshoot, the artist spent the next six weeks painting four separate acrylic wood panel portraits in his signature […]

Update: Kelsey Brookes

It looks like Kelsey Brookes has been working on a new body of work for Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla, set to open in November. The upcoming series of paintings, drawing from the San Diego-based artist’s science background, will be inspired by structural diagrams of different neurotransmitters as well as the drugs that mimic them, both designer (i.e. xanex, prozac) and recreational (i.e. mescaline, LSD). And in other news, Brookes has been tapped to create covers for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they get set to release 18 […]

Album Covers: James Jean x Talib Kweli – “Prisoner of Conscious”

Featuring the LA-based artist’s intricate stylings as a mask, the American rapper has chosen the title from his constant labeling as a “conscious rapper” and as a play off Nigerian reggae artist Majek Fashek’s album named Prisoner of Conscience. For those looking for more from Jean, look for his work in an upcoming group […]
